gasket question

i'm assembling my longblock and wondering about my head gaskets. i have a set of gm 4.3 head gaskets. should i run them or get some felpro mls gaskets? i don't plan on decking the block for cometics.

I would run the GM/Victor Reinz gasket. I think read someone have failures with the felpro gaskets.

i have stock regular 4.3 gaskets STACKED on the pass side

has held 24 psi, and still no leaks!!! :rotf: :rotf:

you need to deck the block for cometics? dammit.

well i don't know how reqired it is but cometics require an extra smooth surface so i'd deck it to be safe

My felpro's failed @ 22psi, I went cometic.

i run victors and they have seen 28psi, anything above 30psi tho and your in trouble

i seen the copper gaskets but think they are a little excessive for my build and w' the vortecs and a stock turbo i doubt i'll really see over 20lbs of boost. i think it was tooky that ran out of turbo on his vortec build a 54mm turbo

Fel-Pro makes three different head gaskets for this engine. Two are composite type and one is a MLS (multi layered steel) version. Not sure which version people have been having issues with but the set # for Fel-Pro's latest MLS performance gasket is S522SD. Maybe someone can post up their experience with the MLS style.
