Gauge Pod Alternatives?

GM TURBO

Sell Out
Has anyone seen any good alternatives to the A-Pillar Gauge Pods? I want something a little less--race-a-truck - more stealth. I thought about using the heater vents in the radio bezel. I have seen a few other solutions for other vehicles - but nothing for the 1st Gen S-Trucks.

How bout it?
I saw a two gauge pode in the drivers side speaker, that looked really sweet. I think he made it him self out of fiberglass.

I saw that also at the '01 Nats. I agree it was pretty nice looking. I've never done any 'glass work so I'd hate to see how it'd turn out

Wow... I like it. Do you think it can be made to fit our trucks too? Would be nice... What's the price of these?

That's not what my dash looks like

I like some of the idea - other parts scare me.

Yep, there'd be some sacrifices there. Like no AC in lieu of gauges and no glove box.
With the wealth of storage space in the SY, this is not a likely mod.

OK. Got it. $389. As I'm thinking over, you have space for only seven gauges, which is not that much... I've six +factory stuff -boost.

When I checked for a SyTy it said:

No Products Available
We're sorry, but this part is not currently available for your vehicle.
Our manufacturers are continually making products for additional vehicle types so check back periodically to see if this becomes available for your vehicle.

but for a "Sonoma" it is... why would that be? I don't think it would be because of the boost.

oh, fer cryin out loud - our shit IS S10/S15.
they just dont have a clue.
its serious work no matter what but neato.

stealth gage install - do it in the left side a/c vent.
my intercooler h20 discharge temp gage is there, and is very low key.
2 would actually fit.
its also a fairly cake install.
if someone wants to tell me how in hell to post a pic i will snap and do it for you.

probably not what you are looking for but i mounted some 2 5/8" gauges in the cup holders. USed some wedge pieces autometer sells to direct the faces towards the driver. Works well, but you loose your cupholders.

I have some pics i can upload if interested.

GMTURBO,

FWIW... In my old "road racing" 2wd S10 I mounted some gauges in the center AC vent spot youre talking about thats above the radio.

A little techy/info first. The above mentioned truck was a "stripper" so it came new with no AC, no PB, no PS, etc... That being said there was a little storage compartment that takes the place of the center AC vent which is of little use since CDs wouldnt fit properly and anything else just flew out during "spirited" driving manuevers.

I cut a piece of black plastic out of an old stereo install kit to match the rectangular opening of above said compartment and then cut out holes to fit three gauges that I will list shortly. The down side is I could only get three 1 1/2" Autometer gauges to fit so they wont really match if you have any of the other style gauges like the 2 5/8" or 2 1/16". These 1 /12" gauges came with a cool little wedge collar thingy that allows you to kinda angle them where you want.

So... If I was gonna do it again and had an AC equiped truck Id just pick up a non AC radio surround (or whatever GM calls it) with the storage comparment I mentioned Its the same color as a sytys from GM so it will match. Then pick up the gauges from Autometer.

Autometer mechanical gauge set up is part #: 2391 which gives you a coolant temp, oil pressure, and volt gauge (sorry, no boost gauge offered that small). Here is a pic of the gauges "console" kit from autometer:

BTW.. dont use electric gauges.. Electric gauges are for posers unless ther're digital gauges. Stick with mechanicals and even though they are more of a PIA on initial install the non fast and delerious gear heads will give ya "thumbs up".
