Coming home fromthe Cap May Zoo today the wife and I deside on Georgin's for some filet. As we come up to the 413 PA exit about 1 mile from I see a Newer gen 2 in the middle so i go by real slow like in the right lane and look and give him my "what is that crap look" (by the way i used to own a 2k gen 2 and love them just getting him to run me) so i get over in the middle land in front of the car that was in front of him and see that he did not like the look and come to play. when he gets behind me I get on it in D till about 110 and have 4 cars on him and then have to hit OD or blow the motor since I am in the red and he pulls about 1-2 cars but is still at least 2 cars back untill 125-130 when i have to slow down because of traffic and my exit got there real fast. After I get off the exit he follows and gets on my left and jumps on it but I am going right so oh well. It had some kind of cheesy exhaust because it sounded horrible, must have been flowmasters. anyway good kill for me. almost time for Soprano's must go to the TV.

I may get flamed here as this is my first post but I originally came on here to get some background info for an upcoming purchase of a Ty (so I'll be one of you soon enough). I find it hard to believe that you managed to spank an Gen 2 L as I own an '01 and bone-stock it went 13.599 @ 101.8 (with no traction and a 2.2 60'). A good number of the L's on the road today are 12 second trucks (including mine which has gone a best of 12.95 @ 107) with several 11 second trucks and five or six 10 second trucks. Going from a roll, which would negate your all-wheel drive advantage, the L should have easily come around you at approximately 100-105 mph with the mods you list. So, unless this guy couldn't drive (which is highly likely) or it was some punk with L badges on a regular F-150 (which is also highly likely as I've seen more fake L's than I can count in Phoenix) I can't believe that you held him off until 125-130.

No flame like I said...I just don't expect my Ty to be able to ever outrun my L (which should be in the high 11's - low 12's when the cooler weather rolls around and I put on the mods that are sitting in my garage).

Properly tuned...his mods put him squarely in the mid 12's.

there are tons of syty's that smoke L's all day long...and vise versa...

to be honest stock for stock i'd bet on the sy...ty, probably not.

as always, I hate these debates as no matter what car it is...whoever has the most money usually wins.

sorry you find it hard to believe :-?

well since the gen 2 was MINE that i sold to my BEST FRIEND and race all the time on the street, (and atco) i can say i did beat him and have beaten him since. it all depends on how much boost i have while racing, normaly it maxes out around 14-15 no matter what setting i have the chip on.

and as for your gen 2 being fast why do you think i sold mine and bought a ty. (they are quick for being a 4600 truck but not fast) When i first got the TY I would pull 6 cars on him till 60 and he would fly by, that is untill i learned how to tune these things. Now off the line i now beat him by 3-4 cars and he gets to my door around 60 or so but does not fly by any longer and from a roll 2sd or 3rd gear when my boost does go to what it is set at he can not pull on me we stay about even or i pull on him. if you are in the nj area i would be glad to come race your gen 2 light to light or from 60-140 and as long as you dont have more then my friend's L ( 4lb pully, chip from johny lightning, shift kit-valve kit, 90 mm with a cone i beat I would win or stay real close.

no dought bro!...I race a guy all the time with a chip, pully, and air intake...he is toast by 2-3 cars untill 105 or so...that is only runny t1-16...if i cranked it, I don't think it would be close really.

Like I prefaced my post with...no flame intended. The only reason I doubted the win was the fact that the BEST ET in your sig is a 13.41...which any L with a chip and filter can easily match. I also won't argue the fact that it's all a matter of money as to who's faster. Like I said previously, I'm looking to also get a Ty because I like the fact that I can easily increase the boost that I'm running without having to swap pullies and such.

Although I do find it odd that it was allegedly YOUR L and you don't know what year it was...hmmm. And if I lived closer to NJ I'd be more than happy to run you but Arizona is a bit of a drive...and should it matter what I have on the L or do I need to yank stuff off to give you a shot at winning? Since I've only run one Sy (and spanked him like a newborn) I'm certainly not going to base my opinion of their abilities on one race as he may well have been bone-stock. I do know that there are several built GN's (same motor last I checked) in town and some I can beat and some I can't, so again, I imagine it's all just a case of how much you're willing to spend. I also imagine that with the right combination of parts and tuning a Ty can be a ridiculously fast truck, which is what holds the attraction for me. My L doesn't get any respect from "sports car" owners until I walk them and I would like a second truck that is able to do the same. Since SyTy's are also rare beasts and I have rarely come across one, much less seeing their true abilities, I was basing my previous post on the BEST ET that you posted. No offense meant...

first off, its not the same motor as the GN's...second off I have seem MANY L's with chips and pullys running hight 13's low 14's still. like we agree, its all about tuning and who has the most money...stock for stock IMO i'd take the sy anyday...I also am not an expert on L's but i dought a chip and intake is an automatic 13.41...like I said, i'v seen L's with this run low 14's. its all about the mutual interest in sport trucks...stock vs stock we may have differing opinions...but modded, its anyone's game. no flames intended eigher!

also, if your looking to get a ty, you can not really just crank the boost up...you have fueling issues, probably knock issues, etc. just be ready for a ton of work is all I am saying!

Seattle,

Thanks for the heads-up and I still agree that it's all a matter of who has the most cash. I also realize that my comment of "cranking up the boost" was overly simplified. Once the other parts are in place to handle the fuel and knock issues "cranking up the boost" is significantly easier than doing the same in an L. I physically need to swap a crank pulley to raise or lower boost which is a project. On a built SyTy, I assume that with a decent boost controller it's simply a matter of turning a knob. I've been lurking around here for a while trying to figure out what works, what doesn't, what it costs and what can be done later. And I stand corrected on the GN motor...duly noted.

If you wouldn't mind I'd like to pick your brain about good starting points for a build-up and relative costs for doing so. Feel free to shoot me an e-mail at dandkmcguire@cox.net

The Lightning ET is debated more often than I care to think about. I go to the dragstrip almost every week, and the interesting thing is, I travel alot so I have a chance to see many tracks. I have seen numerous L's run and must say when one breaks into Mid- 13's I take notice. Prob is, I dont get get bothered often. Facts are that there are lots of fast L's on the internet, but my dragstrip experiences just dont jive with what is on the net.
I have friends with L's and think they are a great truck. I have yet to have a problem winning a race with an L, but I know that there are some out there that are quick. Funny thing about the last Ford Lightning shootout I saw, the fastest Modded street truck ran a 12.5...

Anyway, they are nice trucks and deserve respect when they run the numbers, but most dont.

Daron,

I would imagine that with the number of L's out there now (SVT has built approximately 20,000 of them now) quite a few of them aren't well driven. My first time out in the truck it went 13.5's and .6's and of the ten L's I know in town three have run 12's and the others have all run 13's. I do know that heat and humidity absolutely kill these trucks and during the summer when I went to the track once I couldn't run any better than 13.3's. I have heard stories of people running mid-14's and no better. I a on some of the Lightning forums, so perhaps my view of L's is slightly twisted. You can see a list of L's here...

http://www.nloc.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29519

Hopefully I've gained a little respect...and I'm looking forward to getting a Ty into the 12's.

it was mine i have pics if you like. it was a blk 2k gen 2 i bought from conchawken (spelling) in pa off of 476. the new owner is jeff and was met at e-town swap meet this year by all the naste fellows. we are also at atco normaly once a week and i have the old insurance cards and such too. and mine ty on the street will beat most 12.3-12.9 cars because of the all wheel drive.
as for fast again it is all about money i had a high 10 gn(untill 2 months ago when it was stolen) that many people some on this board has seen run at atco and e-town and i also have a 67 fastback that will beat most gen 2's also.
