GMC now says Ty should be called

On a tribute page to the now departing GMC Jimmy, the highlights of "Jimmy's" carrer are being extoled. One such high water mark was in 1992, when "GMC launches Jimmy Typhoon (R) and it becomes the fastest SUV of it's time".

(Note the "fastest" claim)

I guess when they retire the Sonoma name we'll be told about the virtues of the "Sonoma Syclone".

I know that some book value sources and other rating services classify the Ty as a subset of Jimmy, but I didn't think GMC had officialy ever done that.

Well the Typhoon is a converted Jimmy if you think about it. But I think in this case GMC wanted to point out that the Typhoon is based on the Jimmy and that's probably why they referred to it as such.

PS: They didn't claim fastest SUV of all time, although they should have. They claimed fastest SUV of its time.

i prefer to think of the jimmy as the detuned Typhoon. Kinda like the non turbo supra...no one really wants one.

SO let me get this right! Because my GT does not have a turbo (and diff's in the engine), like the syclone, that means I don't want it? WHAT'C YOU TALKIN' ABOUT WILLIS? Wonder how people with Cameo's feel about that?

Then again it would be like saying, people would not want a Camaro, because they're just the poor man version of the Vette, now I'm just rambling...

soNOma...as in NO turbo. Plain and simple :smile: I was talking more generally with my earlier statement...and was joking anyway.

However...people would rather have a soNOma GT than an a regular one....but I bet most of those people would rather have a syclone than the soNOma also. :grin:
