I recently was on the fence about what i was gonna do with my sy, and the engine i was gonna do for my 63 was gonna be the 6.0 turbo set up, and i never thought of doing it in the sy and i recently searched the net to see if anyone else has done it and i see how cheap/amazing it is, so, im currently selling all of my 4.3 stuff to tackle the 6.0 project. so, wish me luck, i'll also try to keep tabs on the process, prices, and part#'s for anyone interested, ther's a few pics of my truck floating around here, it's the one that says FUR CARS "F UR CARS" on the plates. im gonna be using the Turbonetics GT-K series turbo, so as Ricky Bobby would say,"Dear Lord Baby Jesus".......please bless this syclone with LS power make it piss excellence like Ricky Bobby lol!

Re: gonna do an LS swap too

i'll check that site out, the only pics i have of the car are the ones from the ppl i bought it from, it's just in black primer, no eng or trans and bad interior lol, i'll see if i can get some good pics of it, just recently purchased the car, still gotta get it home lol. but the car is SOLID, that's why i got it. but now that i am gonna do this swap, i may sell it to fund this project for my sy. not familiar with the mike lee items your referring to, i'll look into it tho, not sure what im gonna do as far as ex manifolds and oil pan yet.

mike sells motor mounts, tranny mount, and oil pan for the swap. i wish the pan was available when i did my swap.

i see! thanks for the heads up on that! i will be purchasing these items very soon, just gotta free up some room in the garage, almost everything i have listed is in "Layaway" at the moment lol, just waitin for ppl to get their funds together so i can get started on this. what cam specs do you have? that book that we both have that you said you read has vague info on the cam, just says w2w grind specs, but i tried to contact them and it looks like they are out of business. i was gonna try to call comp and see what info they could give me on it if they have any records of it.

Getting ready to start the conversion,I have a 4L80 trans, is there a specific year trans I need? Any special items needed to mount to the transfer case, and what's the driveshaft requirements? Decided to do an lax swap instead of the ow swap.

Your going to need a specific trans-x-case adapter , brace extension , and shortened and lengthened drive shafts .

You also need a transfer case input shaft or 4l80E output shaft to connect them together.

Thanks guys! I just read my previous post,I did that from my phone. It didn't recognize the words I was trying to use. I'm doing an LSX swap instead of the 6.0 swap. I'd like to overbuild the drivetrain and have a very reliable and high quality set up,any of you have any tips besides the factory parts?

Do you mean your building a motor with the GM LSX aftermarket block? The 6.0 lq4/lq9 is still the "LS" platform, Gen 3 sbc.

LSX is a widely used term. Do you mean that you will be using an GM LSX block?

Yes.... an LSX block, 7.0, 427C.I.,.... I don't know what else to put besides the part number for it lol. So, that's what I'm doing. I'm working on the drivetrain and suspension components first and then I'd like to drop the engine in. According to GM,the 4l65e tranny is supposed to be a pretty serious tranny, but I rarely see them on the street, strip,or magazine articles. Is the 4l80e the best bet still?

Re: gonna do an LS swap too

I'm trying to figure out what your hoping for in the end. You better sit down and price all of this out before you really get into your swap. It's not hard to get into it for over 10k. It doesn't take long for stuff to add up,since you don't sound like you want to build your own oil pan or wiring harness. Things get pricey in a hurry. There's been a few guys who started a swap and then ran out of money. So just a heads up for you to be aware of.

I'm no stranger to tools or engine building or wrenching..... I was just curious on the transmissions, I'm working with mike from Campbell auto on a twin turbo set up and tuning. I know how much this is going to cost me, I am seeking parts from places for specific things that I wouldn't be able to make (like the headers for this set up from stainlessworks, and tuning from a pro...)

so........ would a 4l80e be decent for a let's say a 1200+HP sy used for street strip applications?

all I know of is the 4l80e and 4l65e being used in high power applications that's why I was asking, but wasn't sure if there was a better route, does anyone have any info on this? just curious.

Re: gonna do an LS swap too

Like these guys have said, you kinda need to lay out your goals.

Is 1200hp a goal you're gonna try to hit? Awd or 2wd? Does it need to have overdrive? Define how you're going to use the vehicle (completely streetable, capable of 100+ mile road trips, strip only, etc). All these things will narrow down what your choices are.

If 1200 hp is a real goal, there's no way you're going to get that to the ground with a 4L60 (E) / 4L65E / 700R4. It just won't handle that amount of power (if you have any kind of traction). You're into 4L80E or Turbo 400 territory. Might get a Turbo 350 to hold, but I think it'd be marginal. A 200R4 might (not sure what they can take with all the custom billet parts) work at that power level, but that rules out AWD unless you do a divorced transfer case setup.

See what I mean? Once you lay out some serious goals, the choices start to make themselves. Turbo 350 or 400 don't have overdrive, so if that's critical, they're a no go (unless you use a GearVendors overdrive or similar unit).

I'm not sure that helps, but in order for us to give you good advice, you've got to give us a good idea of what you are doing / thinking / planning / wanting when done.

Re: gonna do an LS swap too

Im subscribing to this thread because I am curious to see how much it costs to build a 1200 horse LSX powered typhoon. Its way outta my budget but something I kinda wanted to do with my goal being somewhere near the 550hp mark....
