Getting ready to start the conversion,I have a 4L80 trans, is there a specific year trans I need? Any special items needed to mount to the transfer case, and what's the driveshaft requirements? Decided to do an lax swap instead of the ow swap.
I would stay with a late modle with the 12 o'clock bolt hole, scince you don't have the bolt hole at 2 o'clock in the ls block.

I don't want to sound like an ass but if you are asking these questions you probably don't know what kind of money you are getting into. If you want overdrive you will need a fully built 4l80e, if not you can run a 400. At ~4300lbs NO 4l60/65/70 is going to work. Why waste your money on an LSx block? Factory blocks with the right work have been proven way past that. Look into ERL LS3 blocks. You can get 6bolt verisons if that's what you want. What size turbos are you going to run? There is not slot of room in the engine bay for two big turbos and all the acc. Like power brakes, a/c, etc. A/a or w/a intercooler? Again not alot of room for that. Remember that things need to be bigger to support that kinda horsepower. What r u gonna do about axles? You will need upgraded brakes. All of these ideas start a snowball effect to make it #1 safe and #2 reliable.

I'm trying to figure out what your hoping for in the end. You better sit down and price all of this out before you really get into your swap. It's not hard to get into it for over 10k. It doesn't take long for stuff to add up,since you don't sound like you want to build your own oil pan or wiring harness. Things get pricey in a hurry. There's been a few guys who started a swap and then ran out of money. So just a heads up for you to be aware of.

X2 Norm, it does add up very quickly though I will have to say, I have put 3500 miles on mine since the conversion and really have had no problems. Still wish it was original (6 turbo), but I still can't stop smiling everytime I'm in it.

go 4l80e forsure the 4l65e is just a beefed up POS version of the 4l60e and thats just an electrical version of the 700r4

Re: gonna do an LS swap too

If you go into building an LSX 427" motor you will have (rough figures) almost $5k in the short block. Why waste a $5k shortblock on cheap heads, so another $2500 minimum for a set of heads. Intake, throttlebody, headers, coils, harness, ecu add another $3000 or more. So you've got over 10k in a motor without turbos, trans, converter, fuel fittings (they kill you), cooling system, etc etc etc.

Honestly you dont need all of that to meet your power goals. A properly built and tuned 6.0 lq4/lq9 will make over 1k hp with the right turbo heads cam etc. It has been done, and proven to be reliable.

As for trans dont waste any time with a 4l6anything. If its a street driven truck do a 4l80, if its a track truck do a 400 turbo.

Spend some time over on www.ls1tech.com . You can find almost anything you need to know about LS engines there.

Re: gonna do an LS swap too

Ok,maybe I shoulda clarified some stuff.... I know this is a very expensive build.... but at the same time,I am getting the engine, turbos, heads, crank, rods, piston, rings, intake, throttle body, ignition system, elec water pump, fuel set up,converter, gaskets, suspension components, brake components, gauges, computer, bushings, wheels and tires, fittings and lines, and more for below retail price (all still new not used or defect).

I also have a large sum of money from a settlement from a workers comp injury that is funding this build without putting me in any financial crunches.... so, going back to the beginning of all of this, I am blueprinting my tranny set up and just wanted to know the deal on the options,I know the 4l80's are tough but just wasn't sure why I seeing so many 4l60's in apps that were making more power than me, for example the impala ss that GM owns and uses for drag racing, its making 2500+ HP and has a 4l65 trans. I don't ever plan on going balls out with the truck after I'm done building it,but what I'm going for is just flat out overkill in the power department for personal preference and wow factor for show and just because.

This build up will probably cost me the same price as if I did the lq route without any hook ups. The only thing I don't have a hook up on is a trans for this specific app, turbo manifolds,my paint job,a Peachy Peach air freshner and a few other items. I apologize for the lack of info from the getgo but I don't post on here much,I browse around a lot but not post,I'm gonna be posting pics soon to start this off right with a step by step process of the build. Thanks to those who supplied info and responses to my ?'s I really appreciate it.

And about those motor mounts,e-mail me some pics please rfreeman.icon@yahoo.com

I know my build may not be exactly what some of you would have done with your own applications, but I know how I want mine, and I'm gonna build it that way, just like you would do with your own build for your vehicles. We're a SyTy fam and I'd like to have this done for nats next year to represent with the rest of you guys, but it won't stop there, any type of exposure in media or locally will not just reflect ME,but the rest of you as well, because a lot of you guys inspired me to do this..... I said that last paragraph because I've gotten some pm's bashing my project, I'm on here the same reason the rest of you are on here.

With that said,wish me luck!
