Help me clean up the engine

Ok, the new engine is in and I will get a new pic tonight but not a lot has changed. I did change/finish up the core support so no more extra holes, nasty gaps, etc. I actually welded in a sheet that goes from the front corner of core support back to the top at around a 10 deg angle. Repainted the support also.

But aside from that I am looking at suggestions on what I can do to clean up my engine, maybe a little less clutter. AC is staying and needs the lines built so no AC delete, at least yet. Looking for any and all ideas, don't be afraid of insulting me I am asking here for honest opinions.

What do you like what would you change. Would you coat dp's to match headers, or go with a shiny coating, black?

Change the valve covers? Throw some raw fuel on it and light a match?

Given the projects I've worked on in the past few years (LS1's in kit cars), and my recent few years of datacenter experience, cable/wire management has become a favorite OCD issue of mine.

Get some updated higher-res pics.. I'd be curious to see what you have running around in that engine compartment.

a better picture is a must but from what you posted... the wiring like mentioned above needs some hiding etc

Ditch the huge & ugly brake booster in exchange for a Hydraboost.
Chrome beauty ring cover for the AC compressor.
Aluminum master cylinder reservoir cover.

I hate the feel of hydroboost, now a smaller booster maybe.

I see a lot of comments for wiring and I agree 110%.

Would you guys just remove all unneeded connectors (ABS), use stock loom or similar or is there some trick stuff out there I can buy?

I will mention aside from parts I fabbed, the wiring is something I have not been into yet, been trying to work out all the other bugs. I have my fingers crossed this motor will last awhile so time to do some cleanup work now.

FYI: its a stock ty wiring harness, with 2 injectors added, coil/map mounted inside the cowl. TPS switched to a ford for the TB. Really its a stock ty harness with minimal mods up to this point.

You can run the main harness under the brake booster rather than over the top. That helps clean it up a lot.

When I was yanking stuff out of my syty harnesses, I decided whether or not I wanted to keep it intact. If so, I didn't cut any wires, just looped them back into a fenderwell or somewhere out of the way. When I was doing conversion harnesses and removing wires for *good*, I'd go all the way back to the source (PCM or whatever) and remove the wire & pin from the weatherpack/metripak. Course the newer stuff is somewhat more durable and easier to work with than the syty stuff IMO.

As far as the loom goes, I'd go as far as to use the braided loom (not the split) - if possible, remove the connectors, put the loom on, and heat shrink the end, then repin the connectors. Get the removal tools from the myriad of wiring sources on the web.

I was going to even go so far as to get a bulkhead connector and put it at a hidden spot on the firewall. You can get a 22 wire one pretty cheap from many sources out there; once you have 50-100 wires to run, it gets a bit more expensive/problematic. It would make yanking the engine a heck of a lot easier, as you don't have to remove 20 different wires/plugs/sensors, just undo the bulkhead connector, and leave everything connected.

i completly been through my wireing on the sy. most satisfying job ever afterwards.
they make it look clean or messy.

i forgot who one the board makes them but the plastic piece that covers the gap between the grill and the radiator. it would cover that fan and make it look a little smoother.

also ive been thinking about making some sheetmetal covers for the holes in the front qtr panels and hiding wires and relays on the back side of them.

I got one of those with the intention of using it for the harness on the sy. They sent me an email saying they have found that its not a good idea to use one for ecm etc as they have tried and found that the chassis/engine flexes enough that it usually causes a problem with connection.

I still plan on trying it sometime but I think I will be looking for a different more sturdier connector.
I really like the one Mike Callahan (sp?) on his truck but can't find one:tdown:

I have been looking at that split loom also lately for the same reason, I found that site also and it looks very familiar to what painless wiring is selling for wires.
I removed all the wires from my harness that I am not using defiantly helps clean things up but still isn't enought.
