I got stranded last night on the side of the road....looks like something similar to whats going on with mine. I haven't had a chance to get under the truck and look yet. I had to be up a 0300 for work...... :dizzy:

Wondering what I should do....maybe disconnect the front shaft and drive the truck until I order upgraded parts??? (prop shaft/u-joints) Possible I ruined the transfer case???

Btw, my SY only has 46K on the clock......

I assume need4speed is referring to the front prop shaft. You can remove it and run temporarily until you can replace it. It is not a pep boys item. Search on here for gilbert, it is an upgrade, or search on dynotech, they make the OEM unit. You may find a local shop that can rebuild yours. Check for damage to the trans case, etc from the prop shaft flying around.

They do fail, especially if they were not serviced properly. 90k mi is about right. They have a special fitting for greasing and it is a pain to do, so most go neglected. Premature failure MAY (not proven, to my knowledge... but a very good theory) be caused by worn-out engine mounts, which allow the engine (with trans & transfer case) to twist under torque load, moving the aft end of the shaft around more than it would with fresh engine mounts.

Your gonna have to check the transmission case, wire harness, fuel lines, all of that stuff. It runs right over that area. The Gilbert replaces all of that stuff. It's the only shaft I'll sell. Comes with seal and bolts. You can drive the truck with out the front prop but you MUST use the parking brake or the truck will roll away on an incline.

Re: Help ! u joint broke on trans case !

I went thru a stock shaft, one modified shaft and one completely rebuilt to handle anything shaft.... then I stopped cheaping out and forked over the cash for a Gilbert shaft and like everyone else have yet to have a problem.

I am fairly certain you can get it at the local parts superstore, but Click the pic and you're good

Check piece #4 and the shaft itself and make sure there is no deformation or cracks.
