Help w/ C5 OEM wheels

I have an opportunity to buy a set of 98-04 Corvette C-5 wheels. I believe they are 17x9 in the front and 18x9.5 in the rear. I don't believe I will have a problem in the front but the rear I worry about. Would these fit on a syty? If not, would they fit on a second gen S10? Any help would be great. I am probably going to look at another Sy on Saturday and think these would look great on it. The wheels came strait off a 2004 vette and have been sitting in a garage since. I believe they have 13 miles on the wheels and tires. Is $800 a fair price?

Thanks.

Fitting on a 2g S10 is going to be tight at best......I know guys have run 9.5" wheels on the back, and I'm going to be ordering spacers for my 8.5" fronts here this week....Probably need 2.25" adapters for the 2g truck.....

They will fit fine on the Sy/Ty application, however you might want to run a small smacer/adapter in the back to bring them out flush.

Re: Help w/ C5 OEM wheels

I have 18x8.5 all the way around on my xtreme s10 and do not need spacers. I don't think you would need them for an 8.5" wide wheel.

Are they C5 wheels?

$5 says you have some custom 8.5's on there.....

the C5 wheels need adapters to correct the offset for the 2wd.

Yep! They are custom wheels. I did not know you where still refering to C-5 wheels when you said you needed adaptors for yours.

Normal C5 sizes are as follows:
Front: 17" x 8.5"
Rear: 18" x 9.5"

Z06 sizes are as follows:
Front: 17" x 9.5"
Rear: 18" x 10.5"

As far as pricing goes, slide on over to CorvetteForum.com, and check out the C5 parts section and do some searching. You should be able to get a good feel for what those wheels in pristine condition are worth. Personally, I think $800 is probably too high. Factory Z06 sets are going for that kind of money, as well as the optional (and limited production) Magnesium C5 wheels.

For reference, I picked up a set of 4 painted '97-'99 "wagon" (that's the style name) wheels, all rears (so they're all 18" x 9.5") for $180 shipped. "Thin spokes" command more money, especially in chrome, but still should be in the < $500 range.

I think they want so much for them due to them having brand new tires and the wheels really only have 13 miles on them. I thought they where 17x8.5 in the front, I was just going by what my friend who has them was telling me.

Sorry, I missed that this was a tire / wheel package, and that the tires are good. That does change things. $800 probably isn't unreasonable.

HOWEVER, you need to check on something. The front and rear tire outside diameters MUST match (within 1% or so). The stock 'vette wheels and tires may not be the same outside diameter. Failure to make these match will cause transfer case problems in a short amount of time.

What do you mean "outside diameter"? Little confused, I usually don't do much with switching wheels and tires.

Outside diameter = tire/wheel combo height......What size tires are you wanting to run on the front and rear, and we can help you with that.

If the wheels are not the same diameter, then one will have to make more revolutions per mile, and the difference will wear hard on the transfer case. +/- 4% I think is the rule, but I would try to keep em closer than that.

O.K., the tires on the wheels now:

245/45/ZR17 Front
275/40/ZR18 Rear

Again they are OEM C5 Wheels 17x8.5 in front and 18x9.5 in the rear. Will these fit a Syclone without issues?

Re: Help w/ C5 OEM wheels

Specification..Sidewall..Radius..Diameter..Circumference..Revs/Mile..Difference
245/50-16 ........4.8in....12.8in.....25.6in.........80.6in........................786..........0.0% <--Stock Sy/Ty size
245/45-17.........4.3in....12.8in.....25.7in.........80.7in........................785..........0.1% <--Looks pretty good
275/40-18.........4.3in....13.3in.....26.7in.........83.8in........................756..........4.0% <--I would want to get a new size here!

See the difference in the revolutions per mile? That is what will cause your transfer case to hate you in short order, as all that difference will be made up in the viscous coupler inside the transfer case....I'd look for a 275/35-18...that would be about right, and keep your width.

Thanks for the help. Since I cannot use them on the syclone w/tires on them my next question would be would they fit on a 2003 S-10 Xtreme blazer (2wd) tires on the blazer now are 235/60/16. Thanks again.

Re: Help w/ C5 OEM wheels

They'd fit on the 2wd S10, but only sort of.

2wd and 4wd S10's use different offsets.

4wd's can run 'vette wheels with little to 0 changes.

The 2wd's are going to need BIG spacers (probably 2" to 3"+) in order for them to fit.
That's a really big spacer, and might present a safety / structural integrity problem. Ultimately your call.

Not sure of how they've fit in the wheelwell or if you'll need additional wheel flare / cladding width in order to cover the wheel & tire.

Re: Help w/ C5 OEM wheels

I'm running C5 wagon wheels on my Ty. Had to have custom spacers made all around to get the fit right. To get the diameters the same I went with 255/45/17 fronts and 295/35/18's rear. No problems. The wheels look good on a truck, far better than on a Vette.

Why are you runnng that tall of a tire on an Xtreme? stockers are 235/55/16's, and MOST people swap to the popular 245/50/16's......At any rate....Those wheels will fit on your Xtreme but like it was mentioned about, you'll need some 2.25" adapters for the front, and probably something a little thicker in the back.

I'm currently putting a set of "Thin Spoke" C5 wheels on my '00 Xtreme, They are 17x8.5's and I'm getting 2.25" adapters from Skulte to mount them up....Plan on spending another $325 or so for adapters to make them fit the Xtreme.

If it was me....I'd grab a new set of rear tires, and bolt em to the Sy/Ty.

I was just trying to use the tires that are currently on the wheels. Looks like If I buy them I will have an extra set of tires I can't use.

Which is cheaper? Buying new tires, or buying adapters?.....Perhaps selling the brand new tires on the C5 boards, or eBay might recoup the cost of the new ones?

Re: Help w/ C5 OEM wheels

So far everyone has told me I shoulden't much trouble selling the tires by them self. I just would hate to get stuck with brand new tires I cant use. I am going to try and see if I can by the wheels by them self for a reduced price.
