Hiding the hood release cable in the engine bay.

The only thing left on the driver side of the engine bay is the hood release cable, and I want to hide it in the fender well. Problem is that its not long enough to run all the way around out of sight, and would need to be lengthened, or a new longer cable made. I was thinking about just making a small bracket, that would mount to the dash and move the release handle forward 3-4" but that doesn't get it hidden, just moves it more to the corner.

Has anyone done anything like this, or found/made a longer cable that will work? The way the stock one looks I'm not sure if it can be modified at all without messing it up.

very simple go to a bicycle store they can custom make one on the spot, had to have them made for older cars

Didnt even think of that, i will have to check out the local stores.

Can the stock handle be removed and installed onto a new cable? It looked like it was a pressed in plastic fitting or something. I will have to look at mine again, i didnt mess with it just knew it needed to be shorter.

Thanks!

I was thinking of a full size vehicle to see if it's longer. :2cents:

Interesting thought..... I used to work at a bike shop doing retail and wrenching (edit: they seemed short for this application). Most of our brake cables were already a fixed length, then trimmed when put on the bike. Have you seen shops with spools of cable?

Whatever you end up doing, keep in mind that the cable housing will HAVE to be secured somewhere towards the latch. If it's not, the cable will just "flail" the housing around since it won't have anything to pull against. A few years ago the small plastic clip that holds it to the radiator support on my truck broke. The result was I couldn't open my hood. Been meaning to machine an aluminum one so that I don't have to break into my truck again...

I am wanting to use the stock location for up front, just run it through the fender well so its out of site. Im sure a new cable could be secured in the same spot if need be.
