I dont know if this has been posted here or not but I found this on a S10 forum. Homemade Caltracs for $160 plus your time if you have the tools to do a little fabing....

http://www.hotrodsandhemis.com/Traction.html

All parts are from the Summit web site
Leaf spring bushing: CEE-2022 $50.00 per set
Afco Bars 19522 15.00 ech (you will need two)
1 Summit joint SUM-MAX12 17.00 ech (right hand you will need 2)
1 Summit joint SUM-MAXL12 17.00 ech (left hand you will need 2)
Plus some 3/16 plate I have some scrap laying around so that FREE

I am going to go ahead and build a set next week I will post pictures and let you know how it went. $160 is alot better than $360 but I am a cheep ass

Re: Homemade caltracs

i've been wanting to reproduce the CBR Battlebars since i like them more than caltracs in that they don't require removing the stock leaf shackle bolt.

I could very easily piece together a kit for these if there is interest. I could also just add in a couple bolt positions for where to affix the afco bars to make them less like caltracs. If there is some interest i'd be happy to make a set of these for someone to test out.

Re: Homemade caltracs

Depending on price I would be interested in a kit or possibly two. One for the Xtreme and one for the Sy. Or a Renz version of Battlebars.

How much would you be talking for a set? I will be needing two sets, one now and another in a month or so.

Re: Homemade caltracs

No clue about price...lemme look into the pieces and see what I can do. $200 shipped area would be the goal, pending pricing on individual parts. I'll see if I can order some stuff and get the bracketry cut this weekend.

Re: Homemade caltracs

Caltracs are 365 on the web. I have ordered all the parts listed above will be fabing up the brackets this weekend or next week. If anyone is interested and the site allows I will post templates of the brackets I come up with if anyone wants them.

Yes please! And if you get a chance take some pics, that way when I fab up some for my truck I can have some ideas as well.

Thanks!!

Re: Homemade caltracs

Another option could be that I just cut the brackets that you need and you buy. All the other parts yourself/weld it yourself. I hope to cut a set of these brackets this weekend to test it out

Re: Homemade caltracs

I'd be in for just brackets, what about a battle bar style front mount to the spring and the rod going back to a caltrac style mount on the spring plate? It would take out all the complexity of the battle bar pivot, and the simple front mount of the battle bar to the spring.

Re: Homemade caltracs

Renz,

What about doing the battle bars completely? I thought you bought the designs from CBR Performance?

These things are as rare to come by as rocking horse poo.

Can you make a whole setup?

i only bought the brake kit design...not the battle bar design. I was hoping to take on the battle bars also, but haven't been able to work out a deal [yet]. This caltrac similar style kit is much cheaper to produce, thus much cheaper to supply/purchase. The battle bars are pretty intricately designed bars.
