I did a bushing and pin kit over the summer but my door still doesnt shut right. Up[on further looking, it appears the hinge part of hte door itself is whats causing this. Does anyone here know how to fix this? Its driving me nuts cause I always have to bang my door open with my shoulder.

Re: How do you fix door hinges?

I've been told the door pin (what the latch closes on) unscrews and can be adjusted slightly up or down then retightened... but I haven't tried it myself.

I'm sure someone will chime in on what exactly is involved.

exactly!! use a torx bit, or a channel lock's to loosen it, and then reposition it, and tighten.

i had a body guy show me his way and all he did was use his tool and rebend the hinges taking the sag out of the door. all his tool was was a\door catch on a pole. i've done it before with a floor jack and a piece of wood

Ideally you want the door to shut and body lines to line up with the latch removed, then the latch/striker adjusted so it still closes smooth.

If the pins are new and door is sagged, the actual fix is to bend the hinges. I have used a long 2x4 and towels to prevent scratching, floor jacks or you can buy the tool they make which goes into the latch and striker.

You don't want to adjust the pin to compensate for a sagging door.

From what I saw when I did mine was when you replace the bushings make sure there is no play at all. If there's any play the door will still sag with new bushing and pins. With new bushings I still had tons of play where the bushing sat in the hing. I add some weld, then grind it out unitl the bushing was nice and tight. Doors close like brand new now.

My body shop guys said that this era of vehicle is prone to the metal that the hinges are welded to fatiging. This is what happened to my door striker on the pass side. They had to get in there and weld supports in on the interior side. They said the same thing can happen with the hinges as well because the doors are so heavy.

Just an idea for you to take a look at. I can't say I have ever seen this with hinges but I am not a body guy by any means.

I too had to remove the doors on my Blazer, and weld in the hole a little so the bushings fit good and tight. I also had to bend the hinges a little so the body lines lined up, but if you do decide to loosen your striker post, DO NOT take it right off!!!! If you do you will be taking out your interior panel covering the "B" pillar. There is a plate that acts as a nut that WILL fall down. :2cents:
