ignition problems

i had a bad miss at idle and at higher speeds(2,500-3,000rpms) the engine would sound like it was pulsating. also, the tach fluttered quite a bit. i swapped out the stock plugs and put in the NGKs after running the top engine cleaner and for a while, all the problems went away, no miss, no "pulsing" and no tach flutter. and now it has started doing it again (approx. 200 miles after the work) i have a conrad cap and rotor ready to go on but am waiting till i can get ahold of a timing light to get the timing dead nuts on zero. the plug wires i cant afford right now, but any ideas on what this could be? things ARE better than before, but i now have a harsh idle, mild tach flutter, and some slight, intermittent pulsing.

id continue through with the rest of the system you have planned..

wires, cap/rotar.

and dont bother waiting .. /arnold voice/ do it.. do it now.

haha i ment like this instant...but yeah these bastard trucks are friggin pains! anyway, i noticed that the tach flutter and the engine "pulsing" will go away when i turn the a/c on...on a cold engine, exactly the opposite when it gets warmed up.

yea, there a bitch. i tuned mine up about 3 months ago. ran great. just before i sold it the tack would flutter. what is wierd is it didn't miss a beat and ran great. WTF! it only did it a couple of times then quit. now don't get me wrong, i love my ty but christ i have a life to. there just not ment to be driven every day and i have better things to do than work on it all the time. its better off with someone else who want one. yo ken, i don't think my 57 will look like all the others as it was bought new by my aunt in 1957 and the car is a factory fuel injected 250hp 283. how many of those have you seen? 8)

hey dude, those tri-fives are sweet, i dont care how many of them i see, i will never tire of that car. and ironically enough, my truck seems to be healing itself as it SOUNDS like it has stopped missing. still plan on getting plug wires asap. as far as it not being a daily driver...couldnt agree with you more, but that is the hand i have delt myself. besides, whenever im not in the truck, i WANT to be in the truck. shouldnt matter for long though, my dad loves those new gtos AND my sy, so when we get one of those bad boys, well switch cars often seeing as how he doesnt drive NEARLY as much as i do

hey, that sounds like a plan. just keep switching off rigs. when you get time throw some taylor wires on that bad boy. should fix your problem. also make sure #3 plug is not cracked. don't forget to put some diaelectric grease in the plug and distributor ends of the wires. let me know how you make out. later

wow, whats this with the number 3 plug? when i pulled out the old ones, that one was fucked. i take it this is a problem with these trucks? more importantly why?

well, if you don't use the right socket you can crack or break the plug. i take the tire off and go in through the rubber flap. super easy if you have the tire off. use a 5/8" socket with a built on swivel head along with a long extension. piece of cake. a cracked plug could cause some of the problems you are having.

well, thats exactly what i did so everything should be ok, but when the plug wires come off, its not too hard to check the plug while im at it. cool, thanks.
