Importing a Syclone into Ontario?

Hi,

I got some questions about bringing a Syclone into Canada, Ontario. Is there anything you need to change on the truck before you can have it in Canada, safety, etc? What about registering it, what do you register it as....S-10 :D? also whats insurance like on these things? I'm still young (22).....but no tickets and accidents.

I just imported mine last month and it was a simple. In short, nothing needs to be done to the truck. E-test and a regular safety insp. and that is it. No stickers, no DRL's, nothing.
Just make sure your paper work is in order BEFORE you get to the border.

Yes! You can import a sy/ty into Canada.Sy's are easier than ty's but it can be done. You definately need to get your paperwork in order several of us have imported in the last year and know the procedures involved. I can give you alll the info you need. As well, there are several sy/ty's for sale in Canada you can look at...if you don't want the hassle. There are 2 ty's locally. And a friend has a nice selection of sy/ty's for sale out west that can help you as well.

Yeah, Tys are all 15+ years old now and are exempt from the RIV.

I remember when I bought my Sy in Jan 2006, I had the dealer store it for two months until March so that Manufacture date sticker on the door was exactly 15 years when I drove it over the border. Longest two months of my life.

Norm: thanks for links, I do have 12K saved up right now and its growing by about 1k, 1.5k every month.....debating weather or not to get a Buick GN or Syclone. Syclones are probably cheaper on insurance, but I gotta look into that. Plus AWD can be a plus because then I can sell my Subaru Forester lol.

I'm paying about $600.00 per year with State Farm. Full coverage, low deductable, and I can pull the Liability in the winter months saving me about $250.00

Yep.....Norm has it covered. Tony has a nice selection of trucks . I know of two local ones for sale...15 year rule does not apply on sy/ty's anymore....To import you will need the bill of sale, vehicle ownership and proof of insurance, and a trip permit if your not going to trailer the truck. You will have to export the vehicle first before you import. Best place to calll is the Lewiston US CUSTOMS office. They will require 72 hours notice before export.Fax a copy of the ownership with VIN clearly shown to them. They will run a carfax,VIN check,LIEN check and status check before vehicle is released.Once cleared they will call you back if you leave a call back number to give you the go ahead to export.Remember.....72 hours! You can then take all paperwork to the US COSTUMS office and have them stamp it for export. Drive the truck to the Canada customs and tell them you would like to import into Canada. Make sure you tell them it is exempt from the RIV program due to the 15 year rule.You will pay gst and an excise tax at the border. Once you certify the vehicle in Ontario you will pay the pst at the licence registration office.

I'll also keep my eyes out for local/national sales, I'm in no rush.....the recent surge in gas prices is worrying me a bit though lol. And all the speculation of a barrel hitting $150+ is insane.

When you're spending $1.25L what's another $.15 for the good stuff. That's only another $10.00 per fill up.
Now, if you're daily driving it then it can add up...

Yeah I know it needs premium :( lol.

What do you guys do for parts? I heard its not easy finding parts for em. Anyone here with a modded one have any problems with theirs, especially after beating on it a lot? I understand that beating on anything will worsen reliability, but can these trucks be trashed around without worrying something going to fail or break?

Beat on anything and it can break.......parts.....I got lots of parts .I also know where to get lots of of parts....So...don't worry about parts.Just buy one the way you like it and drive it. If it breaks...let me know.We can help you fix it.

lol i was too lazy to fully explain what I was trying to say. My buddy had a foxbody stang in highschool with some boltons, shift kit and 4.10s w/ over 200k on the car and he beat the shit out of this thing almost every other day and nothing ever went wrong with it.

Do the stock engines and drivetrain hold up well? How much power can you run through stock internals and tranny before you gotta start building em up?

buy one first and drive it.....it should be fast enough for you....
