intake manifold for 4.3

I think the intake manifold would help trucks run slower than 9.99 as well...might drop a 10.30 down to a 9.99 :)

Hi 2730
I was toying with the idea of going to one of the new gt q trim76 turbos and was thinking that the heads and intake won't go any farther than they are now. the motor is a jim stokes stroker, what he calls his street motor, and dynoed at about 700 horse. I've leaned it out , turned the boost up a little, and am running higer octane than the dyno runs so who knows now. I asked him about going to big vortecs instead of the massively worked late model L35 he did and he said I wouldn't really gain anything, and that the intake was also worked as far as a stock intake would go. His suggestion is Pontiac NASCAR heads, for mucho dinero!!! I can't afford to change the heads too right now, but was thinking of going to the bigger turbo and maybe a dfferent intake. I probably won't do the intake now cause I don't want to buy something that will not be able to work on the heads when next year comes. (the curse of not being rich enough to do everything at once! have to string the fun out a little more) My choice would have been the bow tie heads instead . Truck ran 10.81 last year at 127MPH and is still a little too fat. It could probably use a bigger air to air also. becoming a better speedpro guru wouldn't hurt either.

I had trouble keeping a tranny in it last year, so I'm really afraid to go for too much more power unless I switch. It's got a built 700 that's about maxed out. Mike had an interesting sounding 350 for sale but sounds like someone has already snatched it up. this will be the last 700 for me

Got any pics of your beast?

whose syclone are you talking about that went 9.99 on a stock inake? Jerry ? If it's this one, the intake sure wasn't stock and the sy was rear wheel drive. I don't think there has ever been an AWD Sy break 10. If so, at least I'm not aware of it. Is it Roberts truck from Sweden that is on the top of the heap or did the Hoovers raise the bar a notch? We're talking about 2 hellaciously fast AWD Sy's. Ryan R. from Chicago looks like he has one impressive setup and when he finishes it he might just be someone to loo out for. I looked at his site and his build looks fabulous. Bottom line is that there are probably a few that on the right day could cut some great numbers.

I don't know if anyhone can make this assumption ( I certanily can't), but if an AWD was capable of running 10.5 and you converted it to rear wheel only would you be able to break 10's with the same amount of power. I've heard a few guys talk about having 1000 horse plus motors in a syty, but I haven't seen one yet. I'm hoping that someone like Mike may bring his from california to the nationals this year. I would love to see a 9 second AWD syty!

I'm a little confused. Far as I know the stock "SYCLONE 4.3 TURBO" intake manifold (which is quite cool in my opinion) has gone at least 9.99.. So I get some kind of implication that any truck that "needs" the aftermarket intake manifold is running 9s or better, and for that I've just gotta ask; whose are these trucks? Mike are all your customers Los Angeles street racers? Don't misinterpret me; it's just that if there are a bunch of fast trucks out there; I like hearing about 'em 8)

I have done motors for people outside the world of syty. I.E. boats, drag cars, sand rails, and street cars. I have international customers, customers without computers, and even other syty vendors as customers.. but most of em just dont like to get involved in the syty pride, internet trash talk thing.

The reason we started doing the manifold conversions is because there was not an off the shelf manifold available for the heads we were using. 95% of the time I have told people who inquired about the sheetmetal or similar manifolds, their money could be better spent elsewhere. If you have heads which bolt up to the stock intake, they probably don't flow enough to begin with, so by going to a different manifold I dont think you will see a huge difference to justify the cost.

We will definately be at the nats this year with some fast trucks(both awd and 2wd).

sup , you guys could cut an 350 ramjet intake to fit vortec heads easily . I think it flows alot better then an syclone intake .
Check out this link on some pics from my ramjet intake on my '99 Xtreme .
http://www.chitownsyty.com/bg/pics/ramjet/page_01.htm
But it isn't an cheap mod but for less then 1000 bucks it can be done cause you guys already have outside type injectors ( mine were completely diferent injectors inside the plastic intake plenum . I was scared that it wouldn't fit but it did and perfect . No need for spacers , drill and tap vortec heads , etc...

what is the overall height of that manifold? it looks tall, and a bit more time consuming then most people would be willing to do.

the heigth is 9.5 inches . That is under the intake to the top . I don't think it is much or any higher then an syty intake . Well , its lots of work but not on the intake itself , but all the extra fabricating ( fuel rails , radiator hose routing , intake hose routing , etc....

The intake IS Stock.
He ported and matched it the way he does for his customers.
Jerry wanted to show that KILLER HP can be made with the parts that are allready on the truck.

that 9.87 run was on a stock block and crank also.....
eagle rods
TRW pistons
512 cam
Vortex heads drilled to fit the stock maniflod

Ken,

I'd say yes. It said to be fit 87-92 trucks. These trucks used head similar to our stock heads. Intake wise the L35's are no different...

Anyway, I've never worked with this intake so this is still just a guess...

I have an edilbrock 4BBl dual plane intake for the early 4.3
its not for sale but but i could answer any questions ya have
I will take a pic of the L35 vortec intake gasket up against the manifold when i get a chance. I'm sure it will fit, but it will need some porting to match up to the injector pockets the head. I don't know how much material there is to work with, but the pics will tell

when/if i start building my motor... i'll be doing this:

http://www.chitownsyty.com/bg/pics/ramjet/page_01.htm

looks like quite a project, since it has been done sucessfully, makes it more attractive.

some say the gains might not be worth the trouble, money could be better spent elsewhere, etc..

If one wanted to do vortec heads, they would have to get the lower intake work and drill and tap heads, so lets say 1500 for that setup complete.

What would the cost be in this project, and if it were within 500 or so from doing the stock intake/vortecs would it be a much better choice?
