Intercooler project

I don't know if anyone has ever tried this but any feedback is highly appreciated.

I plan on swapping out my stock IC with a stock Supra air to air sidemount IC by mounting it behind the grill.

Why you ask? Because I promised myself that I wouldn't dump any $$ into this truck (like I have many other cars) and I have plenty of aluminum u bends laying around as well as a Supra IC.

With a little TIG welding I should be able to put together a better IC system.

There are many Supras in the 400-500hp range using this same IC, so I'm sure it will be OK with my stock Turbo.

I wish my stock side-mount had held up. As soon as I started boosting about 15 (with excessive surging) on my single, the sidetanks slowly worked themselves right off. :(

I've been wondering if going to an air-air IC would be a performance gain from the SyTy water-air...the FAQ says yes, but is the gain significant?

The SY/TY IC is not very efficient and heat soaks very quickly.

The Supra sidemount uses crimped fingers to hold the plastic endtanks on.

If yours came off chances are someone took it apart at one point in time to clean it and never crimped them back properly with the seal.

We have run 30psi on these IC's with no problems in the past.

I wouldn't doubt it....the car came to me in way less than perfect shape. It took a lot to get it to the beaty it is today. :)
