intercooler temp.question

sup,
since i cant seem to get my %!@$ DM to work,im looking at other ways to collect some basic data until i can. lastnight i took a stab at intake air temp.
what do you supose is the variation between intercooler water temp and chargerd air temp.? would the ic air temp be the same as the ic coolant temp.? a little highter?
my ic coolant temp at the begining of a 0-100 blast was 78 degrees-at the end it was around 89.
this was last night when ambient was around 70 degrees.
after coming off the hiway and sitting at a couple stoplights,it was back at 79 degrees when i got back to my driveway.
any imput is appreciated

Re: intercooler temp.question

IC air will be a fair bit higher than the IC water temp as it is not 100% effective. As for the actual numbers...I'd be guessing.

thanks for the response.
im just looking for a roundabout. iv red the iat temps run about 10 degrees above ambient in an ic thats working efficiently. soo im curious of the ratio from ic coolant to iat. seemed like a reasonable question...i cant be the first to ask,but a 'search' came up empty.
thanks.

I forget who told me this but someone with a water temp sensor said his IC water temps ran ~10 degree lower than the IAT's temps.

Re: intercooler temp.question

toolman - there you have it.

1. You were told IC temp is about 10 degrees below IAT by a friend

2. dgoodhue tells you the same thing as he's heard it as well!

3. You ran it at 70 degrees ambient and ended up with it at 90 degrees IC temp.

Depending on how long you were running it for your IATs will be anywhere from 100 - 120 degrees. That is still a guess though. Nothing like getting the gauges working!

HTH!

Re: intercooler temp.question

very helpful guys, thanks for the responses. i guess ~100 degrees at the end of a wot run is within normal/acceptable range...but that was in fairly cool conditions,at 70 ambient.
