Anybody know how big a bore vortec heads will support. Thinking assembling a bowtie block with vortec heads. Block is at 4.040 now might have to go to 4.050 or 60.

.020" is only another couple cubic inches. meaning <1% increase in engine volume. you wont be able to tell the difference. only downside i'd see is thinner cylinder walls and less shrouding of the valves.(not a bad thing)
as long as tolerances for everything are within spec, its just a freshened up motor. if you feel the vortecs are choking the motor, get em ported. but honestly, 1% more engine volume is only 1% more head flow needed.

I would go close to max bore. Bigger engine, block will weigh less.
What is the max bore the block can take?
4.155"
This will give you a larger quench area, which can deter detonation, allow you to run more boost.

Definitely. Mike Lee carries the 4.125" unless you have a local source. You probably already know this, but ensure your vortec's have hardened exhaust valve seats (especially when running larger than stock valves) or the heads will not be long for this world pushing bigger HP.
