Launch

I just test drove a typhoon. This car was a theft recovery from a local used car dealer. It was obvious to me that the mechanic did not know his head from his.......well you know. I frist test drove the ty and noticed it would not boost over 8psi (guessing from the dummy gauge). I pulled over and immeadiately noticed one of the clamps on the throttle body was missing..go figure. I took it back and they put a clamp on the throttle body. After my second run, I noticed the typhoon was leaking antifreze, I"m guessing a head gasket or head problem.

Anyway, I was able to get it to boost up to 15psi. It felt ok once I got it to boost, however, the car was a slug off the line. I power-braked the ty and was getting 5psi then launched. The ty would slowly pull out of the hole, once I hit 10 psi, it had OK power. It was my impression these ty's and sy's were rockets out of the hole. Am I doing something wrong or what? How do you properly launch these trucks? I'm guessing the truck I test drove is just a pos.

Stab it and steer it
Re: Launch

Could be almost anything from regular gas to a bad tuneup to who know what. First thing to check on the antifreeze is the water pump.

hated cuz he drives fords
Re: Launch

If the truck isn't running right or badly out of tune then it'll be way off of what a good running truck can do...... there have been trucks in the 15's in the quarter with huge turbos etc but not tuned right.. then there are factory stock freaks properly maintained and tuned running low low 13's

I would not pass judgement on syty after test driving a theft recovered dealership typhoon that was leaking fluids and missing parts. Find another one and hopefully it'll be better taken care of and give you a better idea of how well they put you back in your seat off the line

Where are you located? Maybe someone local can give you a ride.

Re: Launch

the little devils are not as practical as you think. They can make your day on say a Tuesday and you might want to send it to the junkyard on Thursday. Take your time and find the right truck, you should find several available, just don't jump at the first one that you find. Good Luck!

Re: Launch

Yeah keep in mind these will require a lot more attention then that LS1. You can get away with a lot with an untuned or pore running LS1. You try that with a syty you be rebuilding motors every other week.

Take your time and find a good one. That is unless you want to buy that one at a cheap price and make it better. But before you consider that, read read and read some more on here.
