Lock cylinder repair

Is it possible to dismantle the lock cylinder?

Mine has started to seize intermittently and I had to dismantle the column to get the truck started.

I'd like to repair it if possible but I am open to getting a new barrel if it's too complicated.

Has anyone got any experience with this issue? Being in the UK means it's not so easy to just get one from the parts store!

Thanks,

Mark

Re: Lock cylinder repair

A decent locksmith should be able to do it pretty quickly. They can take it apart and replace the pins in it so it works like new. Getting one from the parts store would mean changing keys. THAT would not be cool.

Re: Lock cylinder repair

Would it not just come with new keys? I've ordered one from AC Delco but will heed your advice and see if I can get a locksmith to refresh it.

I always thought it was just quirky but a friend's Syclone has a sweet smooth ignition barrel and I want the same!

I'd love to know how to do it myself. Right now I am starting the truck with my leatherman - :rotf:

Thanks. :)

Re: Lock cylinder repair

Thanks Dave, I thought that would be the case. I ordered a new one in case but that now becomes my salvation rather than a backup.

20 years old, guess things have to let go.

Cheers!

Re: Lock cylinder repair

You need the guts to the steering column remember the rod is messed up along with the ignition switch in the column, you need to take a second look there.
