Here's an excerpt from Powertrax's website:
NOTICE REGARDING FRONT AXLE APPLICATIONS:
The Powertrax Lock-Right Locker works well on the front axle of 4-wheel drive vehicles provided a couple of important guidelines are followed. The Lock-Right Locker should be used only on vehicles equipped with locking hubs on the front axle or with front axle disconnect. In addition, the vehicle must not be equipped with full time 4-wheel drive. Vehicles equipped with a Lock-Right Locker on the front axle should not be operated on the highway with the front hubs locked and 4-wheel drive engaged. Following these guidelines will ensure very on-road driveability while still providing maximum off-road traction.
So, the manufacturer doesn't recommend it. Reason: Most 4wd's don't have the transfer case abilities that the Sy's / Ty's / Bravadas / Astros do. The front and rear axle are rigidly coupled in your average 4wd, causing the front and rear axles to spin at the same speed. In a corner, the front axle needs to spin faster (they go through a bigger arc), and the tighter the turn, the bigger the difference. So, it'd push like a dumptruck in corners.
In the Sy / Ty et al application with the Viscous Coupling in the transfer case, it allows the front and rear axles to run at slightly different speeds, which eliminates most of the stupid stuff. Unless you've got the VC really hot and its in "hump" mode (thats what its called when it locks up tight) you shouldn't have any problems.
But don't take my word for it. Search on here for Powertrax or Locker. There are a couple of other posts with information, including some postings by other guys who are using them (like Ed Hess) and one by Tydriver that includes some installation stuff.
