Whats the best way to lower the rear about 2-3" on a Syclone ? springs or blocks ?

Thanks Jim

Re: Lowering a Syclone in the rear

springs=less wheel hop=best way to lower, and the most expensive.

blocks=more prone to wheel hop, cost considerably less to do, and alot easier!!

your choice.

Re: Lowering a Syclone in the rear

if you go 3" block i bet your rear axle will come up so far it will hit the frame rails. either that on my srpings are just gone in my truck

Re: Lowering a Syclone in the rear

There is a big problem w/ using blocks. It changes the rotation orientation of the rear end and actaully moves the rear end forward. Make sure that if you use blocks you use the appropriate shims to get back the 5 degree pinion angle. I believe that Bob Romano has a block kit that takes this into consideration. If you buy a regular Bell Tech kit you will have to make some modifications to it or you will run into problems. Springs are the best bet. You can contact Eaton Detroit springs, they made the factory springs that are in your Syclone now. They will custom make springs to your request but based on the factory specs (ex: 2" lower but with a stiffer rate so that you don't bottom out). They can be reached at www.eatonsprings.com

Do you have both springs and leafs in the rear?

Re: Lowering a Syclone in the rear

A Sy has "Leaf Springs" in the rear so I am a bit confused by your question. If you are asking how hard it is to replace the complete leaf spring assembly itself it really depends on how rusted the bolts / bushings are and how big of an impact gun you have. Not a big deal at all. This is the email response I got from Eaton-Detroit when I inquired about Sy springs:

Morgan,

Yes, we can provide a 2 inch drop leaf springs for that vehicle for $429.00 for the pair plus shipping.

We accept Visa, Master Card, American Express, Cash, checks, money orders and wire transfers.

Due to the high volume of e-mails we receive, we request when replying to this E-mail kindly do so by hitting your "REPLY" button. This way we can maintain a clear line of communication.

I bought the belltech blocks for $30CDN, though I haven't installed them yet... To tell you the truth.. I am kinda leaning towards getting a set of springs like the one above mentioned. umm.... Just need to open up the bank book..... :D

Re: Lowering a Syclone in the rear

One option not mentioned in this thread, is whether fiberglass springs are available (in lowered or nonlowered spring heights).
They used to be offered in various spring rates like 225 lbs, 215 lbs etc.

Re: Lowering a Syclone in the rear

My stock Ty has blocks and it cut a 1.68 60' at the Nats this year! Doesnt sound like wheel hop was a problem for mine.

I would fiberglass springs. Lower and alot less weight!

$429 is pricey. Like Dave mentioned above, you can get a set of Belltech drop leafs from www.summitracing.com for ~ $160shipped.

Check out my '93 Ty, it has the Belltech springs. The ride is not compromised at all and it sit's just right.

i just have the leafs like everyone else i was just trying to get things straight thats all and with that other post with the email from eaton it sounds like ill be ordering new leafs which replacing the stock ones wouldnt be a bad idea since their the originals 400 bucks is a small price to pay for newer and better leafs!!!

now every person that i have come across that has put the fiberglass leafs on thier rides have hated them thay say it makes the ride way rougher than before and our trucks ride rough as it is in some cases they even broke and they had to get thier money back. from everything ive read Renz they are not like your shafts strong like bull !!!!!

Why are you going to spend $400+ on new leafs from Eaton when you can them for $160 from Summit??
