lowering help

Re: lowering help

I guess ill concise my point. I had a shop put on the correct 3 inch beltech drop leafs, and i dont know how they adjusted it or how they set it up. All i know is that it hasnt dropped even an inch in the last 5 months or so. I just dont want the wheel well and frame to not be showing and to have an inch or 2 gap. With the setup i have is that possible with just adjustment or should it be like that if installed correctly? Maybe the shop installed them to make them stock height and i need a picture for you guys tommorw? and if it is not possible with adjustment with these leafs then what should my next step be?

Drop blocks or a crapload of money and a link setup with rear coilovers.

There is no adjustment in the rear, and the springs only go in one way. Unfortunately you're looking at the lowest the rear can go without blocks or custom springs, I have Flex-a-Forms (gulp) and 3" blocks in order to get my ride height, and I still want it to get about 3/4" lower in the rear.

Re: lowering help

Or possibly your truck sat a little high to begin with, so the three inch drop only took it down to stock height. IIRC, Sys had ~2” drop from the factory so you only gained an inch with those springs. The best thing to do would have been to measure before and after.

Syclone had 1" drop (maybe a 1.5") from the factory. Typhoon's had a 2" drop. Syclone sat pretty high from the factory even compared to Typhoons. My Syclone dropped almost 2" with Belltech's and QA1 coilover shocks & springs. My truck sits at 28.5", the original poster measured 30" which is almost my original ride height.

Please don't take this wrong, OK.
If you have the tools I would,

1. Jack up the truck and put jackstands under the frame so the rear tires are off the ground.

2. Loosen the spring bolts ( do not remove them, only loosen them), There are 6 of them, 1 at the front and 2 at the rear on each side.

3. With the spring loosen, put the weight of the truck back on the wheels by using a floor jack to move the jackstands under the Rear Axle or Anchor Plate.

4. Retighten the spring bolts, all 6 of them to 92 lbs using a torque wrench. (When I do the torqueing down, I start at 32 lbs and tighten all bolts, then I go to 62 lbs and tighten all bolts, then 92lbs and tighten all bolts. Recheck the torque after 150 miles.

as far as one side being higher, that's probably from the vehicle not having it's weight evenly distributed, we're not driving ferraris here

Also if you have C/Os you can raise the opposite front corner to the rear and adjust leaning.

blocks or leafs will bring the axle closer to the car, if the wheel is going closer to the body, your bumpstops will go closer to the axle. What everyone does is trim them, or if you're like me cut them off until you get a notch.

Yes I drive a Typhoon.
Re: lowering help

I didn't see it mentioned but I put the "stock wedge" back in which I know gave me at least an extra inch of drop.

Here is some before and right after photos I took with my phone of a few months ago when I lowered my ty with belltechs. ( I swap my wheels back too but ther are the same size overall diameter tires so the tire to wheel gap should be the same)

When you put the stock wedge back in you have to unbolt it from the old leafs. (I beat the hell out of it with a hammer untill I figured out it was bolted.)

It would probably be easier at this point for you to just put some 2" blocks under the truck and be done with it. :2cents:

Re: lowering help

Maybe summit or belltech messed up and gave him Ty springs. that would make it higher. if the number on the springs matches to sy lowering leafs then you could undo the shackle, run a strait edge on top of the eyelets and measure the arch. if belltech says it is supposed to have 3" of arch and you have 5", then thats your problem. then i would send them back for new ones.

on the note of one side being higher, the lower side is probably "breaking in"

My Belltech with the weight of my truck bed in the back, the spring is almost flat. I can see why their isn't 4" or 5" lowering springs. 3" is pretty much what can be done lowering through just the spring.

Re: lowering help

Here's the biggest question.

Did you reinstall the stock wedges from the stock springs??

If not, that's why you haven't seen a drop from the spring swap, and your pinion angle is all messed up now too :2cents:

See ya,

He probably has no clue if the stock wedge is there. A shop installed the springs, not him.

Re: lowering help

I wonder if he has the stock air lift shock in the truck. It look like the shocks are fully inflated.

Re: lowering help

I guess I'll try what sy2661 said and then how do I tell if the stock wedges were installed?

take good pictures of the rear suspension for us :D

Interesting idea with the air shocks, definitely worth a look, shocks could be holding it up a bit, especially if they were meant for a different ride height.

Re: lowering help

You can also get custom angle wedges bolted to your blocks for another 1/2" from JTR, which I got to help out my pinion angle.
