Muffler Recommendations

If fabbing up a new exhaust system, from the DP back, i have a 2 1/2" to 3" reducer, so my system is 3". I have a new 3" magnaflow converter, and 3" galv. stainless piping, but still not sure on a muffler.

I was gonna go for a 4' long chamber tube from summit, but the more i think about it, its gonna be hella loud. I have a flowmaster 40 on it now, and its alright, but i dont care for flowmaster's tone.

Maybe, Borla, Magnaflow, Dynomax ???? any good sounding models????

Re: Muffler Recommendations

I personally really like the sound/performance of the magnaflows.

Longer is quieter.

I've ordered two from www.hottexhaust.com. Both are polished stainless, and came in within two days or ordering.

Re: Muffler Recommendations

I vote for no muffler at all. It isn't nearly as loud as you'd think it'd be. On a Ty it can drone a bit - on a Sy I wouldn't worry about it.

If you go w/ no muffler should you keep a cat on? I've heard w/ niether of them you can have overboost problems.

i had the stock turbo with stock downpipe and 3' of pipe, it was okay not really loud, but didint have a good tone.
went to the pte 44 with the 3" downpipe, and it was really loud, you couldnt talk to the person next to you.
i now have a high flow 24" magnaflow, it was that or their 14" model.
i am very happy with the 24 it quited the truck down a LOT. but i got used to it and i like it a lot better.
i have never had a cat.

Re: Muffler Recommendations

My buddy bought a 5.0 Cobra, with a set of Borla Xr1 race mufflers on it, and i had to ride home in it, and the sound was droning at 55, and unbelievably loud past 4000 rpms. I'm leaning towards magnaflow right now, but only time will tell. Still got a few months till it comes outta the garage.

Im thinking about putting a muffler back on the ty, the droning is getting to me. It didnt bother me at first but I dont like driving the ty so much any more b/c of it.

What do most of you do when you take it off? Just put a straight pipe on it w/ a tip or leave it short to where the muffler was?

Re: Muffler Recommendations

i had a borla on my old v6 camaro and really liked the tone of it. it was a lot more quiet than the 1 chamber flowmaster that was on it (dont ask :p ). ive also heard lots of good things about magnaflow though.

i know ive heard other cars with just the cat on them that sound pretty good. they usually arent that loud and have a good tone. i have also heard cars with just the cat on them that sounded a lot like a glasspack though.

I bought my exhaust from RPM which the muffler was optional. If u decide not to go with a muffler he sends you a straight pipe in place. IDK what the other guys do to replace the muffler.
