with all that oil you probably had a huge detonation problem. gonna run alot better once cleaned up. looks like maybe a previous owner poured some oil additive in there?? no smoke or something? that stuff stays really gooey / sticky.

Holly crap! This setup looks like it has been sitting for a bit? My truck sat for 10 years before I got my hands on it. I had a chemical flush done to the engine system to rid the motor and system of all the sludge that had built up over sitting. That might be something to look into.

Spark plugs are UR6s gapped at .035 based on recommendations on here . When i pulled the plugs when I first got it, two of them had electrodes almost completely melted so I'm thinking detonation was a big problem and it was just a weak ignition that kept the whole thing togeher, barely. I started upgrading things little by little and the problems just kept amplifying as well. Luckily, between my dad and I we've had over 7 s-series and practically have an entire truck under warranty. The autozone morons wont be able to tell a 17 yr old water pump from a 7 yr old one lol

I am the kind of guy that hates doing things twice though so I'm splurging a bit on a double roller timing chain and other odds and ends that I can afford right now considering the block has never even been cracked open. Once I get that throttle body back I'll finish buttoning everything up and take it for a test run. I'm fairly confident I'm going to be pleasantly surprised.
