What a headache do I have... Received a call from the shop today... They say the front differential's the problem... Shavings in the oil.... Asking $600 alone just to take it appart.... they aren't sure if it's going to need bearings or a rack and pinion..

Need some suggestions at this point... Is it wiser to find a used front differential as a replacement?? Do our front differential have posi??? Need an answer quickly.. trucks on the lift and they need to know my intentions by tomorrow morning...

You mean ring and pinion, if the shop charge you $60/hr i would say $600 is to much just to take it apart. B/c it wont take 10hr just to take it apart, in 10hr they could rebuild the front axle. $600 to rebuild it incl. parts that's prolly a normal price. And no with don't have posi in our front axles, sorry.

If you find a used one, how long do you think it will last. You might have to rebuild that one in 6 months? Or it will last for the next 10 years!!!
