to make a long story short rebuilt # 2280 from ground up. all put back together.I started it last night.the trans i think its in park. but rear wheels are spinning with the rpm of motor just put in new shift cable what did i do wrong. it shouldn't have started if in gear right any advice would be great . thanks

look underneath and see if the shift lever on the tranny is pointing at about a 45 degree angle down and towards the front of the truck - that's park. D the shift lever is about straight down, pointing a little towards the rear.

First thing i'd do is disconnect the cable from the shift lever of the tranny, and move the shift lever all the way forward to find where park is.
