Need to pass a smog check

Okay, just like the title says. I need to pass a smog check, but my truck doesn't have a catalytic converter. I decided to go with the test pipe on my turbo kit instead. Has anyone on here ever passed a smog without a cat? If you live in the Vegas area, do you know anyone who can make it pass for me? I'm just trying to get my truck in order for Nats in September.

they require smogs in Nevada now? EEK that sucks. I dont believe you will pass since they need the cat for the test mainly. You can try but you will most likely fail. Your best bet is to bribe someone to overlook the visual issues but cant make them change the amount of carbons the car gives off unless you use another vehicle. Sounds to me like you are not familiar with the process. I recommend getting it back to a stock system with cat and muffler and bringing it in nice and hot to pass.

Here in Vegas they've required smogs for as long as I can remember. In some parts of Nevada its not required. You can usually find someone that will do a phony-baloney smog. All they do is enter all your info into the computer then stick the smog probe up the talepipe of another car(hopefully one that can pass). Or just buy a cat and take the test pipe out and after its smoged put the test pipe back in. i have a highflow cat with an electic cutout on mine. works pretty well

Or you could gut a cat and then weld the shell over your current pipe. Uhhhh...not that I have ever done that or anything.

You could always buy a cat and have exhuast shop hook up a cat in place of the test pipe for the emmission test.

Typhool7-Most of the time they don't even do the visual inspection. I was just wondering if it was possible to pass the actual smog test without a cat.

KIER-That's what it looks like I'm going to have to do. I was just trying to find a way around buying a cat.

with a new engine and new cat mine Just passed. No way it will without one.

Thanx for all your help guys. I just got it taken care of. Let's just say that it will pass smog without a cat....if you know the right people. :thumbsup:
