New Guy Syclone questions..

I know that neither the ST or TY was ever meant for hauling anything but ass... but I gotta ask.. Would a Syclone be a decent candidate for hauling around a motorcycle (Ducati, nothing HUGE) ?? Its got a bed.. Just dont know if they have the payload capacity. Other Question.. do fully Stock Syclones still exist? I've found some that are partial, ECM, Exhaust etc.. I'm just wondering if anyone ever kept them stock because they thought they were fine just the way they were. (I am not one of these people.. even if it's not broken.. I can fix it!) Oh.. and a more generic question: Whats the best way to break it to the Wife that I think I need a new project truck??? :rotf: Thanks guys.

Syclones have a limited payload capacity due to the decreased amount of suspension travel. I believe 500 lbs is the weight limit for the bed. There are some stock trucks around here and there. The third question you're on your own. :tup:

sy's were not meant to haul more than a couple hundred pounds, per gm. there are a few stock sys around, but not many. and finally, it is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission (or do like a few other guys do and buy it for "her")

The bike weighs at or around 400 lbs. Was just wondering if the truck would be ok for the occasional trackday (for the bike). I guess there's always helper airbags if I REALLY needed to. My old dodge was dang near on the bumpstops when the bike was in the bed (1.5" rear travel) so I guess I could get used to it if I had to.

Monroe MaxAir shocks at 75-90 psi would take care of the extra payload. I had those shocks on an s10 lowered about 4" in the rear and a GSXR-750 in the back way back in the day.

I think you would be OK with a 400-500 bike in the bed occasionally. The payload max is 500 lbs. From what I have read (take this with a grain of salt, I am NOT an expert on these trucks) the 500 lb. payload max has more to do with the intercooler setup not being able to keep the IAT's down under the increased load, than it does the suspension. You also have to think about the tranny. I have had more than 500 lbs. in the bed of my Sy, but I didn't get into boost and drove it like a blind grandma. It would float like a Caddy over bumps, continuing to bounce a bit after the bump, but it never bottomed out. I am not sure of the amount I had in there, but it was probably 700-800 lbs. It lowered the rear about 3 inches sitting still. Braking was also affected. I only drove it like this 4 times, and for 5 mile trips, no freeway. Basically, you can put 500lbs. in there, just drive carefully, increase braking distance and stay out of boost. Helper air bags may be a good idea if your going to do it often and an external tranny cooler is a good idea even without hauling anything. Just my :2cents:

Can't comment on hauling anything with mine... never have have, probably never will. As far as completely stock trucks, I have one of those (not counting the relieability mods right) I have one and I love it. Only 34K (found her with 19k) on it and has never seen the snow/salt. Only upgrades will be possibly be a custom chip but nothing that can't be removed to return it to stock condition.
As far as the wife goes.... can't answer that either, my wife HATES my truck. When I service, clean or spend a dime on it she is on my case.:roll:
I figure most women get that way from time to time, when she makes me sleep in it, then I will worry. :tup:

They exist, but they are usually low mile, and expensive. There is one local to me for sale right now that is very stock. Has about 30K miles, and the guy wants $20K for it. He is the original owner. As to the wife thing, you could do what I did. Buy it and tell her after.

Me: It's a small black pickup, really fast and I've wanted one for like 10 years.

Similar scenario here. What worked for me is if you don't want to not tell her just say you are going to "look" at it. When you pull in the driveway with you just have to explain you got a deal on it you could not possibly pass up!
As far as the price of these, I have flirted with the idea of selling mine but anyone that has asked about is either broke or wants to steal it. I will never forget the kids that pulled in my driveway last summer while I was detailing it. When they asked me to sell it I said I would take twenty-one five if they were serious. Keep in mind they are ridding in a POS s-10). The kid replies excitedly $2,150!?!?!?!

I drove my stock Syclone when I moved from MA down to FL with my Hayabusa in the back. It rode just fine with no problems at all. You could hardly even notice there was any extra weight back there.

I've taken my Ducati 900SS around with my wife in the truck. I never felt a problem, yeah I drive a bit slower and take the bumps and corners easy but, I think I'm more worried about the Bike. Trucks lowered two inches riding on 17's.

Thanks for all the answers I really appreciate it. Its definately getting rid of any reservations I may have had torwards getting one. Now its just time to acquire money and start shopping! Unless someone wants to swap a Ducati 749S for a Syclone :lol:

He coukld also do coilover shocks like turbotime sells.

I have had my RC-51 in the bed of my truck before without any issues. I took it easy like the others posted and it was fine. I would make sure not to go crazy rolling it into the bed though because the metal isn't nearly as strong as a full size truck. The front of my bed started to bow pretty good with my fat ass RC pushed up against it. I would put a wood block against the front of the bed to keep the bike still in the bed so it can't bend the front of the bed and just tie everything down well. Everything works perfect for me that way.
