No boost!

I tried stalling the truck to see what the boost would go up to and I can only get about a pound. I dont know what stall is in the truck now but I think the turbo is a 61. as soon as I let off the brake the boost will jump up,And will build about 13 or 14pounds. What Up With That?

No matter how much gas you gave it, it wouldn't get past 1#? In my experience it's been I can't hold more than 5#s and that's b/c my brakes suck! Did you pop it into neutral, rev it, and mash down on the brakes when the revs were coming down? It's a better way to hold more boost at the line.

You didn't say what rpm it would stall to. If it is between 2200 to 2400 it probably means it is still the stock converter. The stock converter is rated at 1800 rpm. For a 61 turbo you probably need 2800 stall. That means boosting on the brake you should be getting to 3200 to 3300 rpm.

I had that happen with my 87 Buick when my tranny guy put a 2200 stall converter in by mistake and couldn't spool a PT52 past 0 lb. boost.

sounds like converter to me as well.

I have a PTE60 and a Raptor 9/11 2800 stall converter and I can get mine to build boost up to 10#'s without even trying hard. which means i am "stalliing" somewhere above 3100-3200.

just remember on these converter, they are rated at that stall making specific hp/torque at a specific RPM. we are usually making more power at those numbers than the manufacutrer plans for therefore the converters stall at a higher stall than advertised. that is if you are buying it "off the shlef", if they truly build one for you then thay will set he stall at whatever you wish for your power outputs. or as close as they can anyways.
