Pcv

I have an oil leak coming from the oil pan right below the rear main. Lots of RTV was used on both sides to seal it up. Maybe too much RTV. The leak only happens after driving for awhile. No leaking from a cold start and letting it idle for 15 minutes.
It had me thinking. Either the oil needs to get hot for it to start leaking or the crank case is getting too much pressure. I just have the PCV valve hooked to the passenger valve cover and then to the intake. The driver side it vented to atmosphere. I was going to add a PCV back in to the system that works under boost. also using a catch can.
I tested the PCV valve that I have on the valve cover now with an air compressor and 20 psi pressure. It leaks past the valve some. Are there some PCV valves out there that would serve me better and that can handle 25 psi? Do you think this will stop my oil leak near the pan?

Re: Pcv

With that setup you are only pulling on the PVC valve when there is some vac in the manifold. From -0- vac on into boost nada. PCV is closed and crankcase vacuum drops to -0-. It can't go much into pressure because of the vent to atmosphere on the pas side. This may still be enough to cause your leak.

It's really dificult to determine if a leak where you say is the pan gasket or the seal. Is it a one-piece gasket? They don't need much for it to seal correctly. A dab right in the corner will do it. I'd actually suspect the seal. You can't just slap it on there. You have to center it on the crank. Even though it can't move it much you can get it wrong. Ask me.

Here is a pic of the gap that can result.

I would suggest that you return to the factory dual PCV valve setup and run a line from the second valve to the intake of the turbo. Look at this pic.

You'll see the line coming off the second PCV valve and disappear. Why it's not where it belongs in the pic I dont know but where it goes is into the air-cleaner. If you look carefully at the air cleaner between the turbo outlet hose and the rad header tank hose there is a (looks like a black dot) mark on the air cleaner. That's actually a hole into the air cleaner where that hose normally is. The allows some, though not much, vac to be applied to the crankcase while under boost. I don't imagine it's much less than the simple factory setup.

My oil leaks reduced when I reinstalled the dual PCV setup. I used to have the same setup that you are running.

Re: Pcv

FWIW vac pimps are very common in the drag racing world. Although I don't know where you'd put one on a fully loaded SyTy motor.

Good topic, with the catch can and pcv. Keeping any oil out of the intake can only help knock. Anyone have any experience here using other pcv's? Anyone know of a resource for comparing different pcv characteristics?

Is this your bush?
Re: Pcv

I'd been thinking about putting the dual setup back and drilling into my rpm "CAI" and installing a fitting to run a hose into it and get ride of the pcv filter direct to atmosphere. Another thing to do...again.
