Plan B

Well, I have been looking for a Syclone or Typhoon for about 8 months and I missed the one I should have bought in September. I think I am going to go with plan B. I will be in St. Louis next weekend starting my search for a 1999-2003 S-10 Xtreme 4.3 5-speed reg.cab. Regardless of what happens this year I will have a turbo-charged dime. This will still be a difficult search, but if I find one the search will be more than likely over. Thanks for all your input and help you guys have provided. Who knows, maybe I will run into my SyTy down the road. I think it will be a lot of fun for me to build my turbo-charged dime. :)

Re: Plan B

I got stiffed on my one deal where I thought the truck was what I wanted. I sent a deposit on the truck and it got bought out from under me. But when I look back on it. It was for the better. Because the truck wasnt stock as I wanted, and it wasnt what the owner said it to be. It had problems. And the guy who bought it out from under me, (who was on here) totaled it like a month after he bought it.

All I can say is dont give up. I was on here at least 2 years before I came across the one I have now, and to be honest I passed on it when I first saw the for sale listing on it on here. Because I was really looking for a bone stock truck, but I can say that I was better in getting this truck then I would have been with a stocker.

I think it was mostly because Mark took very good care of the truck. And if you look at my mods, there really isnt to much done to my truck.

Re: Plan B

I hope you dont plan on turbocharging the stock 4.3L in that Xtreme. The injector problem and PCM programming with those trucks when it comes to forced induction is an absolute nightmare.

Re: Plan B

Just avoid the headaches and buy a SyTy. Seriously. Go look in the Conversions forum, and count the number of people that ask about, or say they are doing a conversion on their '94-whatever S-10, then count the number of conversions that are actually finished and on the road.

Thats not as bad as it once was......If you get an '02 or newer truck EFILive Flashscan will work on it, and that has EXCELLENT results in the LSx crowd.

Also the manifold changeover to the edelbrock has been done successfully several times now as well.

With those two issues out of the way it's not near the nightmare it used to be......Worst case he ends up with tunercat, megasquirt, and a new manifold......That would work equally as well IMO.

I think it's a good project, and hope to see results....However I'm also of the opinion that it's probably easier to find a decent syclone than it is to deal with making all the turbo stuff fit on a 2nd gen truck.

Re: Plan B

Take your time and wait for another Sy to pop up. It will be worth the wait.

I signed up here in 2002 and it took until September 2005 to find a good one.

Re: Plan B

I am not completely giving up on finding a Syclone. I will just be looking for a reg. cab S-10 as well. And Yes, I do plan to put a turbo on a 4.3.

Re: Plan B

Ive been looking for about 5 years now, since I was 16, Ive gone to look at a few and they all sucked...I have not been lucky in my search...Like I said Ive been waiting 5yrs...Just relax and it will happen...Im taking it easy cause the market is coming down price wise...5yrs ago the cheapest thing I could find that didnt suck was like 17K$-20K$...Now you can find a good one for like 12K$-15k$...Youll find one and I will too then we can race at Nats...

i love my Ty..and theres alot to be said for hopping up an S-10(see sig).BUT,imo, you cant replace one for the other.even with its quirks, the syty is the rarest of breeds.
short of a v-8 conversion, most S-10s are not even in the same ball park as syty...without a mountain of work anyway.
from my own experience....this guy Bill knows a thing or 2 about forced incuction S-10s.Last time i called him(2-3 yrs ago) he was very helpful and making impressive numbers with a bolt on kit. He's a bit pricey, but he knows how to make power.
how fa$t do U want to go?

How much are you looking to spend? I know of a nice truck if you've got the cash.

For a Sy or a Ty I wanted to stay around $10K. If I am building an Xtreme I would probably have $20-25K in total including price of the truck and the work I have done. If things get too expensive I will ditch the turbo idea and supercharge it. I have a few connections in that dept. and can get by a lot cheaper with a supercharger.

For that matter ($20-25K) Why not just buy a primo Sy or Ty unmolested with low miles and save yourself the trouble? Trust me they are out there...
Ask around here, it took me about a year and a half to find mine. Believe me its worth the wait. My Ty is completely stock, 5,000 miles, been featured in GMHTP and now made the '06 GMHTP calendar. If a Sy/Ty is what you really want, don't give up until you own it

I talked w/ MadMike on his Sy. I just coulden't get financing for that much on a sy or ty. The $20-25K I will be spending will be over probably a 2 year period. It's not going to be a one lump sum. As for the truck for sale, Sorry, Not interested. I already have an extended cab s10. I want a reg. cab.

If you're referring to Bill Mach.....then you haven't researched it enough.....Go read some more in the Vendor Feedback section on some of the S-series sites......

2 things you can do, 1 save for it to buy it outright in 2 years, because it may take that long to find it or 2 get in touch with JJ Best or Capital One for financing.
