Poly motor mounts

Hey guys,

any tricks to removing the stock driver side motor mount, and replacing it with the JS design poly mount base? Seems like you need to drop the front diff to get access to the rear nuts. Just wondering if there is an easier way then what I was planning on doing. Got the Pass side done, with just a few swear words :)

And for you guys thinking about doing it with the motor in the car. you are nuts!!!

I relaced mine with another stock style one. I jacked up the engine and had access to all the bolts. I used a box end wrench that has a ratchet mechanism in the end. I was worried about losing some fingers if the jack went down. I don't know if this tecnique will work for an ES mount though.

luckily the customer motor is not in the truck.. Well I wish it was :)

I have access to the top bolts, its just the underneath (nuts) that I cant seem to get a wrench on. I can barley fit a finger b/t the front diff case and the frame. Is this normal? Seems like the motor mount area is boxed off and you cant get at it from the back or side, etc.

read the install page on nwstp

we gave good tech tips to get to those bolts.

From my page.
Time for stage 2, the drivers side.

5. The viewing angle of choice here is head under radiator, looking back. Same type operation, you under truck with wrenches and choice words, your buddy ducked under wheel well removing bolts with rachet.

We didn't have too much trouble once we found the right angle. 2 people makes it MUCH easier though.

I just finished mine....I didn't have any help, so I dropped the diff. Easy...six bolt on each short shaft (60# torque when replacing), two on the long shaft side and a couple on the case. Just tip it up an over. It's not overly heavy....just support it on the cross frame as it has a cable attached. Change out your mount and reassemble. Took me about 45 minutes tops. Did a little cleaning while it was out.

It was easier for me by myself and quicker than sitting around to figure it out.

I was waiting for somebody else to reply, but I guess I have to make my own plug. :D

www.nwstp.com under products...motor mounts.

I sell the adaptors, Jegs and Summit sells the poly mounts in many colors.

All details on webpage.

I have never sent COD, would prefer not to...but I will if that is what makes you feel the most comfortable.

I should have a new batch very soon, guy in Germany wiped out my last stock.

I try not to keep to much money tied up in mounts, but enough to have constant stock. Been fairly tricky, as they seem to sell in bunchs.

Just as an FYI, I'd recommend running solid mounts instead of the poly, pulled my poly mounts out yesterday, they melted. I know with the proper heat shield they shouldn't melt, but why mess around.

BTW: No noticeable vibrations, can't tell the difference between either mount.

I would imagine with Jeffs motor mount plates, you could just use a solid SBC mount. The tall/wide version "i think".

FYI, in order for me to change motor mounts on the customer truck I had to lower the front diff in order to get any access to the driver side nuts. I wouldnt even get my pinky b/t the diff and the frame, so it was impossible to wiggle a wrench in there.

Then once lowered the diff would not go back in straight. Kept binding on the bushing. Had to remove 1 axle completely and disconnect another. Total pain in the ass. Install time for poly mounts with motor out of the car = 7hrs.

I dont know if the frame was tweaked, been in an accident or what, but be prepared for a major headache.

Hey Buster, where can I get the solid mounts?

Mike's right the're just sbc mounts, same as the polys.

mrweelr said:
Are they stronger than the poly?

I'm sure they are, but I wasn't really worried about the strength, I was just worried that they might melt, which they did.

I wonder if there will be any long-term probs with vibration due to solid mounts. Considering trying this but I am trying to think of any fatigue issues, ie broken brackets etc.
