Question about 9/11 TC

This question is for those who have ordered the Hartman/TCS 9/11 torque converter and actually handled the converter themselves. I just received my 9/11 today. When I pulled it out of the box, I thought there was fluid in it because it flopped around so bad when I picked it up.
Ends up the stator and the damper assembly are loose inside the casing. They actually slide from side to side and bang around in the cover if you don't hold it perfectly level when carrying it.
Is this normal for a 9/11?
My new stocker that I sold to Merk did not do this.
I just wanted to know so I didn't complain to TCS about something that is normal. It may be no problem because the input shaft and the stator shaft(that come out of the pump)engage these two and will hold them midline. But I don't want something that is gonna tear up all those bushings I replaced if its not supposed to flop around like that :smile:

PS:It takes about 7 weeks once it is ordered to get one. Order it WELL in advance of a tranny rebuild so you won't be sitting there with your tranny done waiting on it :smile:

Yeah I've got one of Hartmans TC's to...I don't no if that rattle shit is normal, you might wanna ask Brian before you install it.

Your gonna like the 9/11...HAHAHA...its well worth the wait!!

Did you have any gritty looking stuff in yours? I'm thinking about having it flushed out. When I put my fingers in it to check stator rotation, there was gritty stuff in it. You can see it laying on the billet inside too. I could wipe my finger around the inside walls of the shaft opening and this stuff was all over my fingers. Felt kinda like 220 grit. May have gotten in there when they balanced it. I'll call them and see what they recommend.

Just got off the phone with Rusty at TCS. He apologized profusely about the grit down inside. The grit was blue/green in color and felt like 220 grit. Ends up it was scotchbrite that they use to polish up the inside of the bore. That along with a blue substance they put on it that catches the grit. They are supposed to wipe all of that out before it gets bounced around during shipping and gets inside. He said whatever I saw is all that is there and to take a paper towel and some WD-40 and wipe it out. Rusty said he usually does it himself on all TCs but he has some help trying to catch up on orders and sometimes they need a kick in the pants :smile:

All I can say is sorry about the wait on the TC's. I only can go by what they tell me when asking about how long it will take. I have no control over their schedule, I can only beg. At our price and volume, they still treat us well though sometimes it takes longer than the time estimate they tell me. I stock them sometimes but I instantly sell out of them and am stuck waiting like everyone else.

I told Rusty that some people think they can just go right to you and get the TC's faster instead of going the proper route and he said, well if they call me it will be $800.00. And their takes a lot of coodination and double checking I have to do so without that, your chances of getting a TC you wanted go down. TCS is a manufacturer and deal with company that then handle the customers, they aren't set up to handle the public. So please don't go calling them because it doesn't help anything.

Yeah, Rusty is cool. Very nice guy. The wait is no big deal. Just order it well in advance. That way, when you get done with the tranny, you can just put it in. Very true, they will not sell the 9/11 directly to you if you call them(they will quote you a high price so you will kinda go away), you must go through Brian. Very nice looking piece. They even stamp your name on it. Kinda gives it that personal touch.

Brian, any idea when that spring retainer that matches the steel piston I got from you a while back will be sent?

Dude, I sent that to you on Monday. Heads up on a private with the tracking number. You should of had it Thursday at the latestest....
