As of last week RIV has changed alot of thier laws to allow vehicles that meet European and US safety standards into Canada with less hassle. It is called the harmonized standards act.You will be responsible to meet all canadian standards through the individual manufacturers who supply you with a clearance letter once they do the mods.
What does this mean......
2004-2006 Pontiac GTO's, VW R32's, Mistubishi EVO's are now legal to import into Canada. Get your wallets ready boys!

Wonder how that works with the gto. I was told they wouldn't allow it because the gas tank was in the trunk. That would sound like a pricey fix. I tried to bring in a r-32 3 years ago, got shut down on that one pretty quickly . Sure would like to have one of those now. Might have to sell the Tacoma and get one. Do you have a link to the article? Or is it on the r.i.v site? Mitsu evo's are sold at the dealers here now, so no need to buy one stateside.

You know the GTO caught a lot of flack about that butI had to put a fuel pump in a dodge charger and You pull the lower rear seat out and there are little flaps covering 2 sending units I though it was crazy (a little off topic  )

Re: R.I.V. import laws have changed!!!

I've already seen two gto's for sale at the pontiac dealer down the street.
With mods, you import the vehicle and take it to the local dealer for example.....Pontiac GTO goes to a GM dealer. They will perform all the mods necessary for legalization.Once done, they will fax a letter of compliance to RIV on your behalf that all mods have been down to satisfaction.Once you get the riv sticker you can go through the proper registration process. It is actually very easy now to import. Before these revisions it was or could have been a nightmare. All the info is updated on the RIV site.
The new 2008 G8's and Mistu Evo's were not meant for the canadian market until the revision took place. The dealers had a shitload of them sitting at the factory yards ready for sale but could not sell them until the new law was passed. Now they are popping up like hotcakes. The 2009 G8 GXP will have over 425 HP.
