Replacing 2 tires

The alignment on my truck must have been knocked out of whack and as a result, the inside edges of the two front tires are worn to the point of needing replacement. The rear tires are still in good condtion. Will I damage the transfer case if I only replace the fronts? The current tires are Firestone Firehawks just like the ones that came with the truck. These tires are no longer available. I talked to a local tire supplier and he is very hesitant to sell me two tires for an all wheel drive vehicle. Are his concerns legit or is he just trying to sell me tires I don't need?

If you get the same size tire and simmilar tred pattern, it shouldn't be a problem. But I am no tire expert.

it will be fine putting only 2 tires on the vehicle if they are the same size.

however, rule of thumb is to put the new tires on the rear of the vehicle and move the old tires up front. putting new tires on the front could possilbly setup a dangerous loose rear condition which could cause an accident.

From my experience if there is more than a 5/32nds difference from new to used then you should replace all four. That is the standard rule my work uses mainly other stores have bought trannys and transfer cases on subarus because of that. If you want svx I could try and get them but I can't promise anything. Yeah, I work at Discount Tire Co, and its our policy that if you have an all wheel drive car and two of the tires need replaced, you gotta replace all four. You don't wanna take a chance messin up the T-Case. And plus the Firestone Firehawks that came on our trucks suck anyway, I'm running the BFG g-Force KDWS on my TY, its a Z rated tire with great traction and handles awesome. Hope this helps..
