shifter cable burning! what is going wrong

ok, i relocated my battery to the trunk about 3 weeks ago. I ran the new battery cables through the frame up to the front. Ever since sunday night when i start it I smell something burning, today I figure out that its the shifter cable. When I try to start it it turns over very slow like one rotation every 3 seconds. The battery is fine, I dont have any problems untill I try to start it and everything is normal once it starts. Someone please help me, i dont want my truck to burst into flames next time i try to fire it up.

i know whats wrong.
you dont have a ground to your engine anymore and its passing full current thru your shifter cable to start your truck. the motor is isolated and needs a ground. there should be a ground from the passenger side head that needs to be reconnected, and you can also install an extra ground if you want. i installed a #4 from the intake to the frame. fix this soon, or you will need a new shifter cable.

maverick, i used a one gauge cable from the batter, should be plenty big. e-rue, thanks, i did also notice that i was getting some sort of arc somewhere but could not pin it down. thanks alot, i will let you know what happens

holy shit, that worked perfectly, thanks. i hope next time something that simple goes wrong i will fix it on my own. thanks again guys.

my advice, :drinking: the malox, and stay away from taco bell. When i saw the smoke coming out of the center console i damn near dropped a chalupa myself
