after running my truck at the track tonight i decided i really don't like the stock shifter. has anyone got a hurst or any better shift modified to fit in the stock console? is it a major job to do? i definatly want something with more feed back between gears.

Re: shifter

Re: shifter

Yeah man don't hack it up, there are 9 and 10 second trucks that slimply slide there shifter into the D position and go..

Re: shifter

There is no reason to change the shifter. The money would be better spent elsewhere. Just remember what Boostepimp and NJTy180 said PUT IT IN DRIVE and GO. You would be surprise how much TIME and MPH you are losing by shifting yourself.

Re: shifter

right now i'm running in two wheel drive and i dropped 3/10 by shifting myself. ran a 14.8 with just putting it in drive and ran a 14.5 with manual shifting. when i get my driveshaft back in i'll put it in drive but for now it seems to run best manual shifting

What were your 60' times times on both runs?

Re: shifter

Sounds like somethings up with the governor's shift points being out of whack. If you've changed a cam, converter, turbo, etc, you may need to adjust your transmission's shift points. The trans shifts a LOT faster than you can manually. Something else is wrong. Don't put a shifter on it when something else is the problem. If you just like shifting yourself, Transgo makes the 700 kit that has the governor lockout and maximizes line pressure so you don't burn clutches up. But you have to shift it by yourself from then on. Up/Down everything.

i'm not sure what mods are done to my truck yet. i'm still poking around at it. so far i've found a pitbull chip, 3" exhaust and a k&n filter, manual boost controler, msd blaster coil, accel 8.8 wires and ngk plugs. i haven't had a chance to pull the valve covers to check for a cam swap or rocker swap. i don't believe it has a converter swap or turbo swap. possibly a rebuilt tranny. i know it shifts second particularly hard and third too, especially when it's cold. right now i'm tryin to track down why my check engine light won't come on at all, even when i first turn the ignition on and while my truck idles right around 900 rpm. it pulls 19inches of vacum so i'm pretty sure i don't have a vacum leak. i'm wondering if my idle air control valve is bad, or an oxygen senor or my tps. or there's the possibility that my computer is shooting craps. cause i was checking my voltage from my computer to my oxygen sensor and i'm only getting 387 ma on wire c.

you are going to have an engine rebuild soon..
i say go to the track a few times more, and try harder!!

you don't know what mods have been done, neither you know why the check engine light isn;t working? i geuss the owner got pissed of at the check engine light, and thought it was a good thing to take out the light, and sell the truck to somebody who didn;t know what he was buying.

sort your O2 Volts out before you go lean and burn a hole.
bring your truck to somebody who can help you sort things out.

my bulb is in for the dash for the chk engine light and it's good. the 387 mv was from the computer side of the harness. when it dries out i'm gonna check the otherside.

Re: shifter

my B&M magnum grip pro stick fits perfectly in the stock shifter hole, just w/o the leather boot. It's mounted similar to mike lee's. shifter was just over $300(w/a Morse cable) and installation(drive in stock, drive out new shifter)was only $100. And the guy even modified another shift cable bracket to work on my tci pan and with a big front d/shaft and a d/s loop.
Shift sweet as hell. Would need to remove/cut part of the center console to run the air shifter, though. Look around. Don't be afraid to do something noone else has done.

Oh yeah- I changed my shifter b/c a trans brake VB is full manual only and there's no way you could shift on time and cleanly at the track w/o an air shifter plus the stock shifter and esp. cable suck.
