I have a question... I keep getting a code 31. I read about the possibility of the solenoid vent getting clogged and causing the check engine light. Pardon my ignance but where the hell is the vent? Top, bottom, tiny? Help a brutha out...

It's the nipple with the little piece of foam over it. I just removed the foam altogether. Probably not a good idea but the AC compressor was throwing crap all over it anyway. Check the two vacuum hoses that come off the solonoid and make sure the rubber boot is not pushed down all the way or it will effectively pinch off the hose. I originally solved my overboost problems by replacing those two hoses. Now, I'm overboosting because of the ATR exhaust and converter

Its odd how some people have overboost problems with a gutted converter, and big exhaust. I am running a gutted converter and big exhaust and am able to maintain stock boost with no problems.

OK,

I had a cracked elbow (factory) that went into the solenoid. I am going to assume that this was the source of my problem... I now have a couple more questions... What is the hose diameter 6 or 8? The elbow looks like it has two different sized ends. Did you guys just replace the whole thing (elbow, hard lines) with one piece of hose with zip ties? Second...is there any way to clean the solenoid? On the engine side of the solenoid there are two similar looking nipples. The upper one was where the hose was attached...the lower one has some kind of strange metal clampy thing. Above it was mentioned that there was some foam. I ain't got none  I guess age has deprived me of it. Should I just attempt to clean the solenoid and disregard the foam? Or should I try to replace it with something? Is there a good (safe) way to clean the solenoid? Any and all help appreciated unreservedly.

GM TURBO

I don't remember for a fact - but I would say buying a new solenoid would be more cost effective than trying to clean it. I know they aren't that expensive and they are still available from GM.

I just replaced the short vacuum hose that goes from the solonoid to the turbo - I used a piece of new vacuum hose and pushed it onto the fittings without using any clips. The longer vacuum hose that goes from the solonoid to the wastegate was fine on my truck so I left it alone. Only thing I did was pull it away from the nipple some because it was pushed all the way down on the nipple, effectively pinching off air flow and causing overboost. I also removed the solonoid and cleaned it with a toothbrush and dish detergent. You may just want to go buy a new solonoid if they're not expensive. Hope this solves your overboost problems. Let us know what happens

well...

I replaced the hoses with some rubber i had lying around. Not a single friggin' place in Charlotte has the silicone. Except lime green or other ignant ricer shade. No word yet from Ian on when his kit will again be available. Suxxors. I had to special order the solenoid from Franklin GMC but hey, it was only $20.17. Not the typical Syclone raping at the parts counter. We'll see...

Hmm...i don't unerstand why you get overboost, because your WG Solenoid is pugged and vacuum lines are cracked...I had similar probs. and it allowed for only base boost...

Just a thought.
