Speedpro question

i know this is probably a really dumb question, but i wanna know for sure. where i live, i can get 116 leaded octane race fuel. my question is, will 116 LEADED fuel foul-up the o2 sensor (or any leaded fuel for that matter), therefore giving the speedpro a possible false reading? thanks

You picking that bad boy up today ??? I wanna go for a ride!! Let us know how the tranny is. Mine goes to Lucille's a week from Monday. That way it won't be tied up over a weekend. I hope...

i was wondering this also, i found this while browsing the the turbo buick forums, Craig Smith actually works for speed pro/fast so im guessing he is somone you can rely on

"Has anyone had the Speed-Pro O2 sensor go bad from running race gas? The guy I bought the car from says he never ran anything higher than 100 unleaded for fear of ruining the O2. A friend of mine uses some of my Monte Carlo's 114 in his car while at the track and has a heated O2 with the factory ECM and is constantly going through O2 sensors. I just wondered what you guys have found as I don't really personally know anyone else running the Speed-Pro system"

We have had O2 sensors come back that are fouled out and no longer work, but never from lead. It's almost always oil or just blackened from being way too rich. Lance and I have never run anything other than leaded race fuel in our cars and haven't had a single problem. If your tuneup is good and you aren't blowing oil through the exhaust, I wouldn't worry about leaded fuel."

I agree with Craig. We have run leaded gas through stock O2 sensors, the NGK sensors etc. and never really had a problem. If you are really worried then maybe race on the C16 and then put back in the unleaded to clean it out a bit. If it was a daily driver only drinking C16, then eventually it might die on you. I personally wouldnt worry about it. Even if you kill the O2, $350 is cheaper then $10k for a new motor. FOr WOT we usually let the truck run off the actual map, and not in closed loop. This will eliminate the worries of the O2 going bad and compensating incorrectly. For driving around the closed loop does help.

The FAST wideband 02's seem to have a good resistance to lead.

The stock Syty heated 02's seem to have *some* resistance to it, but still die.

Brian-

well, i do have access to 106 unleaded, but do you think we should tune it at the Nationals on the 106 unleaded, or the 116 leaded? :-?

how do the 50#'s put up to c16. do they get clogged easily with say 5 gallons c16 and 4 gallons 92 octane?? plus some propane injection.

Race gas doesn't clog injectors.

50s aren't any different than other injectors when it comes to clogging.

Propane injection shouldn't bother them if you aren't putting the propane through the injectors or freezing them.
