how come i get a slight knock (more like a tick) at idle when i start it up when cold? it goes away when it warms up.. im using mobil 1 10/30... what could be the source of this sound
thanks
your right- it's probably the injectors ticking. if the sound goes away after warming up i would first suspect a lifter or a rocker problem cause the injector tick is always present. doesnt matter if its warmed up or not.
yeah it goes away after a few mins... im going to have to take the top apart im probably just going to get a head job done while im in there....
any good socal places that do a good head jobs?
it has nothing to do with your rockers. you have piston slap. excessive piston to wall clearance. does your truck have over 90k miles? change out your oil to 5-50w. you will still have noise when it's cold but the change in weight will bring your pressure up a bit and help out in hot weather. short of that all you can do is pull the motor and rebuild it.
it could be your main or cap bearings starting to go could also be the oil pump getting tired i usally run 20 50w in normal car i dont know if they make that in sytetic in oil
