Starting problem?????...Help Appreciated

Does anyone know what is happening when I drive my Ty a 45 mile distance, stop a while and then when I try to start it it makes a soft Click and won't turn over. Needs a boost! Battery still has juice. I have followed local mech. advice and have changed the following...Starter/Alternator/Battery/ Positive Cable all to no avail. Ty runs awesome when it starts. It seems a shortstop over-5-10 minutes, will do it. Battery is relocated to Pass. front side, and Ty is quite modded. Thanks....paul30@telus.net

Same here. Ran a replacement wire, and a cover on it, but it still melted to the DP flange. Starts though.

its the purple wire that goes from ignition switch to starter. Most likely all the wires near starter need to be replaced/looked at.

Get the Tahoe mini starter that has been discussed on here and replace the purple wire with a larger gauge wire and heat shield it and it'll take care of the problem for several years. The exhaust manifold cooks the wire and the starter. My last starter, you could take the WHOLE solenoid and wiggle it around and pull out out about 1/4" out of the housing from heat damage. As your driving it, it gets heat soaked a little. You pull over and park (like to run into the store), it will flat get cooked because no air is moving over it and then you'll get the click click click.

My ty has a ford starter solinoid on it and still did the same thing. My issue, however, was right after i washed the truck.
I searched for the purple wire and found out the insulation had rotted through leaving foot long pieces of open wire. When it got wet it grounded to the firewall and wouldnt start. I switched the purple wire to 8 gauge ( all i had lyin arond) and the issue went away.

Hot shot relay (but make your own, way cheaper) from jegs. Temp fix, keep turning the key back and forth, back and forth...keeps clicking but by the 10th or so click it'll start.

I have shielded the starter and positive cable. Where might the purple wire show above engine level ? Can't find where it goes after the starter. Need to change after tracing it. Thanks.....Paul

It goes to the wire loom above the brake booster.

Yep, once you open up the loom you will discover that there are three purple wires in there. You want the biggest of the three.

Re: Starting problem?????...Help Appreciated

The click thing happened to me Twice today but unlike before it started on the 3rd attempts. So, I have improvement. However, when my signal light is used, I see the amp gauge flicker in tune, and blower fan is reduced. Could these be related problems with the "clicking"??? Brand New Bosch Alternator from CDN. Tire??? Any thoughts? Thanks.....Paul30
