stumble...dammit

I had instances of the o2 voltage dropping to 0. This was after I installed my sumped tank and new lines. turns out the shop that welded the tank didnt rinse it all out and so the residual crap from welding and cutting had clogged my fuel filter. I have one of the russell AN filters so we were able to open it up and see all the crap. I would look to fuel filter if its not already been done,

throwing money at it seems to be the trend soo far....i have a sensor i took out of my 95 tbi s-10 that turned out to have nuthin'wrong with it....
think that would work?

I am pretty sure the Ty is different. I think its a 3 wire versus 2 wire for TBI motors.
Pay the piper :(

Re: stumble...dammit

You have mentioned about you O2 coming close to zero does the scan tool allow you to save and look at the data. Ie is the single digit number before the stumble or right after the stumble (ie because of the stumble)

i was watching that pretty close for a couple minutes...
it would drop to 2-6 mv then the stumble would occure a second after..then the mv would jump to 750-850 and repeat....thats why i was wondering if the sensor could cause the stumble...

My truck is doing the same thing right now were the o2 will drop under 50 and then jump back up to 800. I am having the same miss that almost kills the engine too. I just put a new o2 sensor in it and didn't really help any. You may want to try it anyway just in case.

Nice to hear I'm not alone :D. I just put in a new cap/rotor, NGK UR6 plugs, taylor wires, and disconnected my MSD box, and my miss became a lot less severe. The idle is still pretty eratic, but it's getting better. Next I'm going to check for vac leaks, and check all my sensors (O2, TPS, IAC, MAP). It's gonna be a long road

I have the same symptoms (though I never looked at my O2 sensor that carefully). I also did my intake gaskets & coil, though I didn't do my IAC and TPS. I highly doubt its the IAC. I supose it could be my TPS, but I thinking its I need to rebuild my distributor or its just normal my truck will always do it.

I also have read a worn distributor gear can cause a bad idle. I checked mine and it was fine.

02 sensor dident help...put in a bottle of injector cleaner and its smoothed out some...
new problem.
when i put it in the shop (indepandent) for the timing chain, they did an oil change and put regular 10/30 in it..soo i brought it to work(Merc.Benz) and dumped the oil and filled it with Mobil one synthetic-its on tap here-and ran it for 200 miles.....started to hear an engine noise.i just went through this engine noise stuff and found a broken balancer.fixed that with the chain...quite as a mouse.anyway, got a new noise...dont sound good..soo i ask one of the guys to give a listen....when i told him i put in the oil from the tap he said"no,no you dont want that..thats 0/40 grade, its way too thin for your motor.."....0/40,WTF is 0/40!?!...well,its like f'n water...now the motors wrapping...dumped the oil x2 with Castrol 10/40 syn.in hopes to wash that sh1t out and quite it down....no good...bang,bang,bang....

you know,5 certified MB techs standing around, oggling at the truck while im putting this f'n oil in and NOT 1 of them said,HEY,YOU DONT WANT THAT OIL IN THERE,ITS TOO THIN,ITS 0/40 GRADE... till AFTER i drive it 200 miles and start to hear a noise...now thier like...you shouldnt of used that oil..yeah,NO SH!T!?!
now im in a spot were the motor is banging away and if i continue to drive it i risk hurting the block...1 of them tells me"it could run for YEARS with that noise with no problem..."....HELLO??
yeah,that helps*&^%(*&%$#@*&^!!!!

im disgusted.
i guess I should of asked what grade was in there.i thought Mobil one was Mobil one..im a dumb a$$..
im gonna try to flush it some more, but i think the damage is done...what im i gonna do...run straight 50 to quite it down?!?
F&%$U*&^C*%$#@#K'N 0/40*&^$%

crap...

Throw some thick dino oil (20W50) in for a while and see if that helps. It's cheap and you can keep changing it to get all that 0/40 out of the lines and everything.

at this point iv dumped the 0/40 and flushed w/the castrol 2 times with no change  ...
20/50 wont be TOO thick?

That's what I'm running right now. Seems to work fine. I'm running it b/c I am getting fuel in my oil and was afraid that it would start to break down.

i really can't imagine that you could really hurt your engine if you used wrong oil..
with no abuse to it.....

i want to believe that, trust me,but before i put that oil in it was very quiet.purred along nice for a block with 130k on it.i noticed the knock about 50 miles after the oil change on a long trip but dident give it much thought..the oil level was good/clean,motor was running strong(and still does) just had this noise.after i got back i learned about 0/40 and was told it was too thin to provide the needed "cushion" for the bearings.i guess the MB motors have a MUCH small tolorance in the bearings and require the thinner stuff to get in there and lube...(i know, its like comparing apples and oranges)...it was my mistake for not asking....
a close freind of mine who builds motors was suprised i made it back from my trip without a seizure.

BUT,we could be way off...the oil pump could be failing with no indication from the o/p gauge..we all know how accurate these gauges can be...

i wasent really abusing it but did do 75-90 mph for 2 1/2 hours x2

who knows, mabe a couple more flushes will help...

or not

forget it! I mean how long did you think it would be before it was time for a rebuild?

nothing lasts forever ...espcially anything with a turbo hangin off it!

yeah,i hear that, but i dident think it would go south THAT quick..it was running/sounding perrr-fect.maintained to a T (i got all service records from 30K on)...than BANG! i thought something like that would start light and get proggressively worse, not just appear out of the blue...
like i said,i was ALL OVER the motor looking for that noise that turned out to be the balancer-that was the only one..
i guess it could be coincedental in occurance..

im sure its not the highest mileage stock Ty...dgoodhue's had 160+ on it (i think)...but i guess your right.Ed....
lasting the summer would have been nice.

Im sorry..I know what you are feeling..your going through denial...I will be true to you...It will not get better...Your bearings are done....Start yanking the motor ...open it up and then open your wallet...Really wide...Your gonna have to spend some serious bucks now and a good amount of time to do the job right....Dont forget to clean out all your oil lines..take apart your lifters....Repl your Radiator etc...If you need help guiding you through it im sure we can guide you through it.....Im sorry...And it will only get worse not better.....

Man that sucks! I agree with stick some 20w50 to see if that helps, but you living on borrowed time if its a bearing. It may but you little driving enjoyment.

Years ago, my friend cooked his mother cars engine by to doing donuts (For hour in the the snow). On the way home, It was rapping bad, so he stuck some 20w50 in it. (he did all the families mechanic work) He never told his parents, & his mother drove it another 35K miles without a problem. Ofcourse my friend babied that car after that. A gm carb 3.8 is alot different than a high strung 4.3.
