sunroof in a typhoon??

My typhoon #156 has a sunroof. I'm not sure what the factory had as options for a sunroof, but mine appears to have been a pretty good job, the headliner blends right in to the roof opening, the problem is that the sunroof motor seized and started doing wierd things like opening the sunroof spontaneously, I'd come out after a rainy night and damn if the thing isn't wide open, so i had to cut the headliner back and manually crank it shut, then disconnected the motor and siliconed around the seal on the outside. sucky. i cant find any kind of a dealer reference to a new sunroof motor, that seems to be all it needs. Anyone else have a sunroof in their typhoon or syclone? Any ideas who might have supplied the motor to whoever did the sunroof jobs, or where i could get another? thanks

Re: sunroof in a typhoon??

Its not factory, you need to figure out who made it 99% of sunroof motors are also power window motors, But if the window will open at random times the motor works so you problem lies else where

Re: sunroof in a typhoon??

its not the switch, i isolated it to the motor, i think those last few times it opened on its own then seized were the motors death throes..in any case, since the hole in the roof is still there (dammit!!) I'm going to redo all the wiring and electrical to it. Has anybody in thier course of browsing come across a sunroof kit for the typhoon?

Re: sunroof in a typhoon??

my money is on Webasto as the manufacture. Thats who made mine and I believe the one thats in Erics too, but his may be an ASC.

I can tell you that if it is a Webasto and its the same age as the truck (circa 1992 - 1995), you WILL NOT be able to find parts for it. When mine crapped out, I started at the bottom of the food chain, aka local Webasto installer. They couldnt get parts but gave me the number for their regional manager. He was unable to find anything so he gave me the number for one of the main guys at the Webasto of North America headquarters. He personally checked all their NOS inventory as well as everything that was electronically cataloged in their other various warehouses.... nothing.

Needless to say, my moonroof hasnt been opened since May 2002.

I do know that the sunroof was aval. as a factory option on the Jimmy/Blazer in 1987-1988. A friend of mine bought a Jimmy brand new and it came with the sunroof option. After about 51/2-6 years it leaked like a sive and was siliconed shut.

thats probably why it wasnt an option in later years :rotf:

the only factory sunroofs on 1st Gen's ive seen were in 94 - 95 Bravadas before the body change.
