SY engine questions

DUDE you got a TATTOO
Well, here goes, I found this engine for sale close to Detroit. I finally found out how to contact the kid about it and bought it yesterday(after driving all damn day). After doing some major searching on here about casting numbers for block, heads, crank etc.... It turns out that it is a true syclone engine complete with nodular main caps. but here is my problems.

1. I would like to find the owner who had the engine rebuilt.

2. I would like to find out more info as far as machine work and what not (that's pending on ?#1)

3. the kid described the engine to me as one of only 4 1992 sy engines

4. how do I find the vehicle it came out of?? where is the serial on the block if any??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am just curious about this motor, the price was just too good to be true, it came with exhaust manifolds, down pipe, wiring harness, etc....I bought it from roseville, mi. and the kid told me that a local shop called finish line or something like that rebuilt it.

Thanks for all reply's

Dusty

How could it be 1 of 4 SY engines if they built 2995, 1991 Syclones?

I try in 1993 to buy a complete engine and was told by my connections at my local dealer (management level) that you can't buy it as a complete crate engine as each engine is kept track of and they only sell by Vin #. So your truck had to be at the dealer for replacement.

OK maybe 1 of 4 1992 Syclones. But I will leave it up to the other people with more Knowledge on the very few 1992 Syclones respond.

Re: SY engine questions

The VIN is on the driverside rear,on a little pad by the head.Right where the middle left bellhousing bolt goes through.

Re: SY engine questions

I ended up giving $600 for it but it came with a wiring harnes, exhaust manifolds, cross over pipe and the motor was complete except for the intake. It even had the sy oil pan.......It is a fresh rebuild though, just too bad it's all stock gm parts.....that was not as advertised though

Re: SY engine questions

It would probably help if you posted the last 4 of the vin on the motor.. Might ring a bell for someone. Just a thought though..

Well, if you knew what innards were in it....

I know that some of the syclone challenge "spares" were floating around mich.
These had forged slugs, and the "pink" rods.

This would be consistent with being referred to as a "92" syclone motor.

I looked and looked for the vin on the bell housing side of the motor and didn't find any V.I.N

As far as innards it has the casting numbers of stock pistons and i'm assuming it has stock rods. What is the difference between stock and "pink" rods?? I remember reading this before but I forgot.

Thanks for the reply's
