Ok now that I've determined the fuel pump is Dead on my Clone  :x I'm starting to think I want to do this on my own, it's got a full tank of Gas in her, I have tools and a garage here are my Q's

A: do I have to drop the tank, or can I get to it by taking off the bed?

B: what all does taking off the bed consist of is it terribly hard?

C: recomended number of groupies to aid in the removal.

D brief description of what I'll have to do besides buy Pump and locking cap and Nut?
thanks again guys!

We did mine by taking the bed off, it's a lot easier than dropping the tank IMHO

B: what all does taking off the bed consist of is it terribly hard? 6 bolts, 3 on each side, 2 grounding straps, (one by fuel filler, other on driver side rear off wiring harness), unplug lights, drop spare tire, remove spare tire crank, (little c-clip), remove rear bumper, 2 bolts at filler neck. I'll review and make sure I didn't miss anything.

C: recomended number of groupies to aid in the removal.
At least two people....preferably more.

I did it myself when I put in my Walbro 255 and it was no big deal. 6 bolts hold the bed on and a few wiring harnesses need to be unplugged and the bed lifts right off. My 100 lb. girlfriend and I lifted the bed off if that says anything  You'll also have to unscrew a ground strap near the fuel filler neck as well as the filler neck itself. Once the bed is off, clean everything really well before you pull the pump out. Use a new o-ring on the pump and if you're careful you can reuse the metal ring that holds the pump in the tank. Good luck.

We took mine out for a little SPIN after we put the pump in, without bed, and with just a cat....a little loud, fast, and you could really hear the turbo spool up.

Fun.....

Replace the fuel filter on the frame while you are there. The fuel filter plugging up is the number one cause of pump failures on fuel injected vehicles... plus it will keep your warranty valid on the fuel pump.. I also replace the fuel pump relay, because it is cheap and it will also cause a failure, or make you think the pump is bad.... 8)

Heavy equipment is cool!

Heavy equipment is cool!

This is some info I posted earlier for the carbon fiber junkies in the lounge:
Bed weighs in at 198 pounds
1.jpg

Tailgate is 32.5 pounds
3.jpg

Rollpan is 15.5 pounds
4.jpg

I can pull the bed EASY by myself

Here's how my truck launches 246 pounds lighter :D : http://homepage.mac.com/syclone2932/launch.mpg

For the lines going to the sending unit, get some penetrating oil like the Fabulous "Blaster". Chances are they will be HEAVILY corroded  . Be careful not to twist up the lines when you are removing them. When you get the fuel pump out, make sure you "lose" the pulsator  Lastly, you may want to take the liberty to touch up any spots of corrosion on your frame while the bed is off. And apply a good coat of wax to the back of your cab and front of your bed since they probably never get waxed. HTH

 :D  damn! that launch is wicked looking!!! I love the rear tire spool up !! I ordered an warboro 255 non high pressure! I think I was just as exited to wax my cab back and bed front along with frame touch up and shock shine as I was to do the Pump!! thanks Mike

All you need is two strong guys. Watchout for that gas cap....it can get snagged.

Re: Sy Fuel pump replacement ?????

soo do you still need to take the rear bumper off? what way would be easier for me? i have like 1/4th tank of gas, and i can't figure out to either drop the tank.. or to just take the bed off? what one would be faster? and easier?
