lightning's are turds bottom line, stock for stock I would be ashamed if my syclone didnt beat one. i have put about 300 miles on a new 2002 L in the last few days. my Sy was way faster. only thing the L has going for it is leg room, trailer hitch, and warranty.
on a scale of 1-10 here is what i think.

niceness of interior

if you were a hard core ford guy and you were getting a new truck I think the harley davidson with the SC on it would be a much wiser choice. get basically same motor but you get the sweet ass back seat and a way better interior.

GM needs to pull its head out of its ass and build a Syclone 2 or something like that, make it fullsize go head to head with the L. can you imagine a super or hopefully a turbocharged LS1 pick-up that was all wheel drive. christ I would all most anything for that truck. ford is still tring to catch the Sy GM needs take the performance truck to the next level like they did in 1991.

I'm thinking that a new Chevy Colorado w/ the TT 4200 I-6 400hp engine from the TT Trailblazer would be an interesting truck. Lightning / SRT-10 killer...the engineering work is done...now they just need to "make it happen"

Everybody is entitled to their opinion, and while my Sy is my favorite, I think the Lightning is a real nice package. The L performs very good for a full-size truck. Mine ran 13.7 stock at just about 100mph, and the '01's and up are a bit faster. They handle good, and I think they stop better than Sy's. Not to mention they make all the right sounds under WOT! :D

But if GM made a new version of the Syclone, I'd prolly trade my L in on one. :)

Hell ya chevy made that sst or ssr or whatever which had a 485 hp with a six speed if they did that that would blow dodge out of the water but in 99 they had a ss silverado concept that had a 6.0 with a whipple on top which would run down any lightning and give that srt ten a run for its money. A syclone 2 would be a badass idea which they would never. (who knows why?)

Okay, all this fullsize shit has to stop!! Fullsize is just extra weight and wasted HP in a drag racer. I hope the fast trucks coming out are minitrucks instead of these 5000# sleds. How fast would our SyTys be if they had our motor in the fuckin' Tahoes or TrailBlazers of today? High 14s, mid 15s? No need for these huge MF'in gas-guzzling "Gratuitous Waste-Mobiles". My Sy already gets only 16MPG.

not to be rude and i DO love my TY, i have to go with the L over everything about my TY. i am sorry i sold my 2k L, bone stock it went 13.3 @ 103 i have time slips to prove it. the best my TY has done is 14.2 @ 97 with a te61, chip, k&n, 3" dp with wastegate, and a 3" catback. I sold the L to a good friend of mine whom i go to the track with all the time and we have video of him spinning his slicks and keeping up with me off the line, and when we go street racing down seaside he keeps up with my GN till 25-35 mph, of coarse now he has a 4lb pully, 90mm, k&n, chip, valve body, and a few other goodies.

just my 2 cents but if i did not owe so much on the TY i would have another L in a sec.(keeping the TY of coarse) they just respond so well to mods till you get to low 12's then you better have some cash in forged parts because the motor and trans fall apart, my other friend with a 01 L is on his 3rd motor, now he has the nos, 8lb pully, and everything is forged.

I like the L's. In fact, the L is really the only ford product I like (except for some of the late 60's stangs). If I had the cash, I would buy an L for my daily driver.

Huh!

Last time I was at the motorplex I had 4 Lightnings wanting to kick my ass they all said they would really just spank me bad. Well Im into the kinky shit and said sure why dont you just smack me a little and put your f turd on the line and lets go. I beat the 1st guy by like 15 car lengths hell I thought he quit. I had to turn around and look for him as we went through the 1/8th mile. I could get his time slip bcs it was street grudge night. The next guy I raced had a smaller pully on his supercharger and had a 50 shot on the bottle too. Well, same result but I only smacked him down by about 8 lengths. This is back when my truck was slow running 12.4's

In short I have not seen "one" lightning run under 13.5 no matter what the mods. Im not saying it cant be done but, I havent seen it.

Oh my god!! Something has to be majorly wrong to only run 14.2 @ 97. I have heard of bone stock Typhoons commonly running 14.1 with nothing and on http://www.jimmyz.net he talks about his Ty running 13.6 with nothing on it either! Do you use DataMaster for a scan tool?

Last I read, the Lightning came with forged pistons and rods factory. Is that not so?

from what i understand, they are forged but they are not up to the hp they make and have to go with a better forged parts.

as for my ty not running right, well it was not i had many little problems with it untill last week when i took everything back off and put it back to stock and changed wires and plugs again. still not fast but i would guess they way it is now (all stock except for pitbull which is a waste anyway) it is a little faster then before with the mods. you have to remember that i did not have a conv. and that was killing me till about half track i also still have a pitbull so no more then 14-15 psi. the te61 makes no power till 18+ on ty's but i was planing on a conv. and 3 bar chip untill i found out the balance on the mustang for the motor and trans work. so the ty is back to stock everything and just an every day driver for now.

as for a scan tool that was also in the plans i had downloaded the datamaster files and was waiting for a friend of mine to make me a cable to use.
