Syclone QA1 rear shocks

I've been talking with another member on he board about QA1 rear shocks he put on his Syclone. I've decided to go the same route and figure I'd pass on the info since I didn't find much on the board.

QA1 offers TD901(double adj), TS901(single adjust), TN901(non adjust) which are for a standard 82-04 S10 specs are 24" extended 15.5" collapsed.

I plan on getting the TD703 double adjustable, which are 19" extended and 12.25" collapsed. I'm going to pair this with my beltech lower springs and jags that run set back plates. After looking through the catalog they specify you may need the bushing for the lower mount and also the lower shock bolt. You also need the tbar kit for the upper mount.

Ended up having to buy an eyelet to convert the top stud in order to install the tbar.

I also purchased the TD801 to test fit. They have a longer compressed length 13.5" and a longer extended length 21"

I imagine I'll still use the TD703, but we will find out.

The difference between each shock mount to mount is the that TD703 ends up being .75" shorter. I think I am going to use the TD801 because it is bolt in and it ends up being cheaper. Using the TD703 you need the eyelet and the tbar which adds $39 per shock ($22+$17) bringing the cost for TD703 up to $269 each. The TD801 was $239 each. I won't be using the lower mount bolt either, I just added a couple washers to the stock spring perch mount so the shock doesn't come in contact with the spring perch. I'll post pictures when everything is together.

Very good info, thanks! I need to purchase a rear set for my Sy as well. Not sure if I need the double adjustable, any advice for choosing between single and double?

Double has compression and rebound adjustment. Basically it has more tuning options.

Great info. Just out of curiosity are you using these shocks because your looking for a specific ride quality or from the research you did you're assuming these are the ones that fit your needs? I can't stand the way my truck rides and this winter i have a goal to look it over and make a change or two.

I bent one of my kyb monomax shocks after hitting something in the highway a while back. I was debating either replacing the one monomax shock or buying new shocks, but since I was cleaning up the entire back end I decided on new shocks. I wanted better ride quality overall so I ditched the 2" blocks and stock springs for the beltech springs. I'm hoping the adjustable shocks will help me improve the ride quality also, but I think the major difference will be getting rid of the stock springs that were combined with the blocks.

I have the belltech rear sway bar, monomax rear shocks and the belltech springs. I have nothing else no lowering blocks nothing and DAM i HATE my ride. I know the truck is not new and bla bla bla i heard it all and if i want that stiff nice ride you need to spend a lot of money....but what about the inbetween section having a decent ride and not spending to much money????? Thats what im looking for. I don't mind bottoming out once and a while on a big bump it happens. I think im going to have no other choice and change the rear shocks and see if that helps.

I'll let you know if my ride is improved when it gets back on the road. Hopefully soon. I will be disappointed if it doesn't improve.. :rant:

How much clearance from the bump stop do you have before bottoming out?

Not much. I'm planning to start working on it this winter. I dont want to do anything now just in case we have another nice day or two i wouldn't mind enjoying it a little bit more. Didn't do much driving this summer with it. My goal is to go over all the suspension items and see how i can approve on them. I will keep you posted.

Like I said my Sy was night and day difference. Harshness is completely gone. The wildcards are you've got a swaybar(s), I don't, and I've got caltracs and you don't.

Yeah, I've been reading threads today. I'm starting to wonder if it was the rear sway bar adding to a crappy ride quality. I believe when it was installed, it was torqued with the wheels hanging (no weight on suspension) and I remember reading somewhere it should be torqued down at ride height. I guess I'll find out if I ever get this thing back on the road....

Finally took it for a drive. It rides much better with the new setup.

...So has anyone done these on a TY? (QA1 TD801)
I guess my question is will these fit a Typhoon?... because the shocks differ from a SY to a TY but are these compatable for both because of the adjustability?
My right rear shock is dead (KYB). I want to either go to a pair of Bilstein's or an adjustable shock as an upgrade. Also, what about the fronts? Anyone do adjustables up front with the torsion bars still in place? (non-coil over). Part #''s?

If the TD801 has the same mounts you would need for a TY I think they should work fine.

I do have one good KYB shock laying around. It's only got a couple thousand miles on it if you are interested.

Thanks for the offer!
I am going to something better than them. I never liked the ride on them (KYB) and want something to replace them.
