I am replacing my Syc Starter any tips on a replacement I was told to use a Denali starter because it is smaller and has more torque? My old one got tired from heat soaking

Re: Syclone Starter

Look for one from a 1993 c3500 with a 454. It's a hi-torque mini starter.

Other than that, it's a straightforward starter replacement. Unhook negative battery cable. 2 bolts hold it down and there a couple of things to disconnect. Maneuver the old one out and the new, smaller, lighter starter should go on much easier. Installation is reverse or removal.

Re: Syclone Starter

Yeap, I just did mine with the mini starter, 1996 C3500 454. Worked great and a lot easier to get the smaller one in than the original one out.

Removing the splash shield from the passenger side as well as the torque converter cover made it go pretty easy.

Re: Syclone Starter

No no no goose...u want the bad ass hitachi starter from Hood. It will eliminate the heat soak issues associated from running a 3" down pipe. I have been running it in my DD ty and it has not let me down once.

Re: Syclone Starter

I would personally reccomended the hitachi mini starter, pretty good little starter. They are probably less than half the size of the stock massive starters, they also have much more torque. I replaced the starter on my SY and the hitachi was definitely the best choice, they're way easier to install than any starter that GM makes that will fit the SY.

Hey heres a link to what I'm taLking about.

Its a direct replacement with no mods needed. You simply clock/adjust the solenoid at the 6 oclock position to keep it away from the down pipe and avoid the heat soaking issue.

Re: Syclone Starter

Pretty much what he said ^^^. It bolts right on, you can adjust the direction the solenoid faces if you want so if it hits something(which on a syclone it does not) you can turn it. That's why there is holes all the way around the front.
