TC lockup

I am pretty sure this has probably been discussed to death, but I am interested in trying to put in the lockup switch on the Sy.

Now as I understand it you have to connect the A and F terminals together and the converter should lockup when it shifts into second. Is that correct?

I plan on splicing into the wires behind the ALDI connector and hook up a switch so I can still use TurboLink to record runs. Seems like a rather staight forward mod that have given some people a little better times. Also heard that it may cause a truck to bog, actually slowing you down.

I am 100% stock, other than "basic" mods, how has this mod effected other stock trucks. Let's hear the good and the bad.

I've never seen this mod slow anyone down. It may shorten the converter/tranny life. You may get more knock or knock at a different rpm/load.

Ummm try search, but if your really in a rush go to the vault  . Cya at the nats....MINES BIGGER THEN YOURS :fist:

it's real rough on the converter clutch.
i'd not do it frequently.
you will definitely feel it pull harder when it locks.
don't yank it down outta boost, tho.

thanks for the constructive input Rudy :x  I did try search, guess I had a bad choice of words or something. Search function sucks. Read that article in Tech, explained everything. I will only be doing this at the track.

I WILL BE FASTER THAN YOU AT THE NATS 0X

Here's a pic of the lighted switches that I installed in my truck and a bud's: http://huryde.station180.com/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=mikecampbellakaSY2932&id=aau His second switch is used to power his electric fans whereas mine is to power my SPA Design gauges. That way, I can reset the peak stored reading (boost, transmission temperature, fuel pressure and IC temperature) without turning off the truck.

I am looking forward to testing mine once I get my transmission back in my truck :-?. Seems ET's .2 of a second faster are the norm with this "mod". If you have a really loose converter, you stand to gain even more. A bud with a 9/11 told me he is .5 faster when he locks his at the strip. HTH's

I like those switches Mike, they look clean, like factory. Love when people do mods that look like they were supposed to be there.

Well I managed to totally gorilla fuck an easy project like hooking up the TCC switch. I wanted a lighted switch also, went down to the parts store and got one. Came back home and then proceeded to do a real clean install under the dash, looked SWEET. Then came time to test it, as soon as I hit the switch the wire I had spliced into the A terminal(ground) started glowing red, turned the key off and let the smoke clear.

Started looking at the damage and found that my ground wire from the ALDI port was fried all the way up the harness to where the 12 ground wires all turned into 1 heavy ground. Let me tell you, sticking your hands in probably the smalllest dash in the world(IMO) and trying to tear apart a harness full of about 12 wires to find a burnt wire is no fun at all. After surveying the damage, it doesn't look like the wire managed to cause any damage to any other wires, thank god.

So now my mission is to run a new ground wire and splice it in like it is supposed to be, so I can get sy112 back on the road. Righ now it looks like my dash exploded, I took EVERYTHING off the dash to try to get further in there.

Then I have to try to figure out where the hell I messed up in wiring this thing up. I admit, electricity and I have never gotten along, it always wins. But hell, I figured even I could handle something like this. Oh well, lessons learned. But now I missed headed to the track tonight, which was why I was doing this mod in the first place.

BTW, even with the wire fried, I hooked TurboLink up and sy112 started right up and I had no codes, couldn't believe it. From the smoke that was bellowing out from under my dash, you would have swore a SWAT team was making a raid. All in all, I am lucky, could have fried a lot more than 1 wire.
